The newer formulation 102SSC copper is higher purity with, I believe, a more expensive drawing process to maintain that purity. That's why it's pricier.

I was told by the US importer (Lotus Group USA) that the 102SSC, in direct comparisons (with power cables and interconnects) has greater clarity and refinement.

You will, of course, need to compare and decide for yourself.

The Oyaide/Neo d+ USB type S model features larger gauge conductors and is terminated with platinum + rhodium plated USB connectors.

The reason why the type S is offered vs. the type A is due to the larger gauge conductors and the special plating scheme for the connectors, which provide sonic benefits. Whether or not the type S will sound better if placed in your particular system is unpredictable. You might consider the AudioQuest Pearl USB cable featuring unplated solid core copper conductors instead.

why do you think larger gauge conductor provide sonic benefits? as far as i can see it only provides less resistance/impedance...

I'm not going to argue the point. The greatest benefit of the type S USB cable is the larger gauge 5V power run, which acts like a DC umbilical. If you think a larger gauge DC umbilical is unnecessary, then by all means choose the lower-price product. The bottom line in my experience is the Oyaide/Neo USB cables are intended for pro audio applications, and can be bettered by other USB cables for audiophile use. If you were located in North America, I would be glad to sell my orphaned Oyaide/Neo d+ type S USB cables to you. The Oyaide/Neo USB cables are available at local pro audio stores in North America, so you might consider trying both cables with right of return if possible in Spain, paco.
