All my cables are stock and would like to try replacement power cords at the <$100 range. I've seen the AudioQuest powercord AC15-1.6H advertised at $50 but wondering if they are recommneded. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

Francis

for power cords under $100 i haven't found anything that beats the tara labs prism ac....admittedly, i've not tried the audioquest ac15-1.6h, but the prism ac really opened up my marantz cdp...try it out!

Here's what we made for my Dyna ST-70, posted on July 16, 1999 at 11:19:27

We took a 6' length of grey Belden 8477 cable. Nice stout heavy duty material for a good quality HD power cord. It is much stouter than the nasty original thin wire "stock" 35 y/o Dynaco power cord btw. I then obtained a decent quality 15 amp Hubbel grade hospital grade plug end at the local hardware store. I bought another good one for my turntable from Ned for about $7.00 at Triode Electronics. After attatching the cord to the plug we soldered in the new power cord to the amplifier. For strain relief we used tie wraps to make a simple, albeit crude strain relief. I am quite pleased with this quite inexpensive power cord "upgrade." I now plan to do the same to my CD player, Scott 350 tube tuner, and my modified Pas 3x preamplifier with the new Curcio boards in it, and my turntable. I would bet this DIY relatively low cost power cord is as good as most any commercial $100.00 power cord for less than 1/2 of your projected $100.00 budget for your new power cord. OK guys, you can rip me apart now..

Your'e probably right. It probably is as good or better than cords costing more than $100. For Francis, who might not be inclined to DIY, I'd recommend bumping the budget up (or buying used) just a little bit and consider cords from Monarchy, LAT, TG Audio, Harmonic Technology, Custom House or PS Audio. Good <$100 cords don't exist - that I know of. Your better off DIYing. Or good $100 to $200 cords do exist like the ones I mentioned. So much depends on your system though. A $1000 cord could sound worse in your system than the $20 stock belden cord. System synergy. Francis, if you really want an answer that might prove to me useful you should state what kind of gear you have so that people can make a better recommendation. Its worth it. Cords are king. They can do more for your system than speaker cable and interconnects. Do it. Do it right - without spending more than $200 a cord. BTW, you probably wont' find one cord that works for your whole system. One kind for digital, another for your amp, another for your preamp etc. I'd start with the cdp or dac and then the power amp. Have fun with this adventure. It should be a real blast. Good luck.

Like John, I'm trying out some Belden 17604's right now. I'll post the results in a few weeks.
