Joseph, I looked into making DIY S-cables, and came to the conclusion that I could buy *great* cables for about what it would cost me for quality raw materials, but I couldn't predict that after spending the money (and time) on DIY S-cables I'd have at *least* the same quality as the commercial cables. Decent S-connectors are $5 each, and assuming the cable is roughly $1/ft., the cost is $12 for 1 meter's worth. So without buying heatshrink you're already at $22 for a 1 meter length, not to mention the cost of shipping/handling and tax (if applicable) from each vendor for materials. First, let me suggest that you find out whether or not you can see any difference between S-cables (many can't). If you have OEM S-cables, buy another set from a store with a good return policy and have a small "shoot-out" between the two and see if you can notice differences before you spend your time, energy and money. If you already know you can see the difference then you may just want to consider commercial cables... I tried many S-cables, and found even the entry level S-Video Monster Cables are very good ($24/1 meter, $5 each additional meter), better than other brand's (I tried many) "better" cables. I *hate* MC, but their S-cables *are* good! But the cables that beat MC silver M1000SV cables in picture (IMO) and are priced competitively with the MC M1000s, are those made by Harmonic Technology. So, if you're watching your pennies, buy entry-level (Video 2 or 3) MC, if you want terrific cables get the HT cables. Or, if you're not in a hurry... I have an idea for an S-cable recipe (I love the HT cables, but I still want to take a stab at a DIY S-cable) and I'll share my experiences here after I've built the cables (not in the immediate future though)-- However, as I've noted, the materials cost would be equal to (or maybe a little more than) medium-priced cables (if you're interested). Good luck! Robert
