I just got back from visiting the High End shop here in Miami. He
sells Wireworld, Harm.Tech, and DH Labs. Couldn't go that high
on the HTs so I purchased a 15' pair of DHLabs w/spades. I tried in
vain to find some used cables, but needing a 15' lenght, not too many
out there.

The SilverSonics will connect two Golden Tube pieces (SEP1 SE & SE40 SE)
so if the silver plating leans to 'brightness' I may be OK due to the
tube's mellowness. Paid $170 out the door for those wondering.

DH Labs in S. FL, posted on July 15, 1999 at 22:29:49
I believe DH Labs is based in South Florida. I'm thinking more Broward than Dade but could make for a nice field trip one afternoon.

I haven't heard their interconnect or wire but it sounds like it is what I am looking for. Hell, for the price, its hard to get hurt! If for some reason you don't like them, I'll take them and make a 7.5' bi-wire set.

I'm flying into FTL in Nov and plan to look them up then. If you get there first, give us a report.

For some dumb reason, Florida is the Hot Bed of Hi End wiremakers
(scammers, depending who you ask!!!)

We have Tice and Vampire wire in Central FL and Straightwire, Wireworld,
Tributaries and DH Labs are in the lower half of the state.

My dealer had a 17' pair of Straightwire's Rhapsody which were used for
$200 and he honestly thought that the DH was better stuff. I tried to
make him sell me the more expensive SW, but he wouldn't budge. He's
got some nice things and has some integrity, but is kind of a kook to deal with.

I figure with all the money I'm throwing at this system upgrade, $170 is
a drop in the bucket.

Take care and enjoy your stay in S.FL, but don't dress like a tourist.
We have a saying down here..."we only shoot the tourists."

Jack,

I've talked with Darren (I believe that's his name) who is the
owner regarding a problem with a local dealer. He said that he would
ship to me if it couldn't be resolved. He is very adamant about each
dealer's territory. I tried buying from Washington St. and California
and both times the dealer deferred to my local shop. Admirable.
I believe my local shop was going directly through DH Labs, as they
will be dropped shipped from there, but I'll let you know for sure next week.

I know it's not the best stuff, but at less than $6/ft. terminated
and with tax, I think the investment is outweighed by performance.

Chris

PS: I'm getting the Ah! Tjoeb cdp from Holland this coming week and I
bought an extra set of Philips Jan. NOS 6922 as spares. I paid
$25 for the pair and was wondering if this was an ok price and
are they hard to come by? I have the GT SEP1 SE and it uses one
6922, so I can experiment with that unit.

That wouldn't be Audio by Caruso, would it? ;)

Although it can be at times, like having teeth pulled, he appears to
be on the up and up. I guess he could have told me to buy the more
expensive stuff, and maybe I should have (after reading the SW RhapsodyII
reviews on AR), but he did give me a good price on the little used
and pristine GT SEP1 SE. I also got a good deal on a used Panamax 1000+
lc/sp for my HT system. My Siltech HF-6 went for less than half retail
and it was new.

He wanted to sell me a demoed Museatex STR 55 for $800, but it was 8yrs
old and when I called the company, 'John' felt a more fair price would
be about $500-$600, so that made me wonder. His cost for the unit
was probably about $800, so he just wanted to get his money back and
I can't blame him, but I didn't take that deal. The unit retailed back
then for $2K, so his asking price wasn't outrageous.

He's real big on HT cables and calls them an unknown gem. I guess he doesn't frequent this site too often. He He...

Have you bought from him before and if so, what are your impressions?

Yes, I have purchased from Don while living in Miami. I moved to Central FL three years ago. My impression of him is similar to yours. He's a very serious person when it comes to making suggestions on equipment, and would not steer you wrong intentionally. I got a great deal from him on my analog set up, as well as my preamp and phono stage. Don was also very generous with freebies such as DH cones, pro gold contact cleaner, stylus cleaners, and cds. He is a strong believer in the Silver sonic cables, and I bought a bi-wire pair last time I visited for use in my bedroom system. I have not been in touch with him in awhile, but will be sure to stop and see him and try out the HT cables when I get the urge to switch cables. I am currently using Wireworld silver eclipses that I got from him.
