I am the moderator for this section, and I am stating up front, NO DBT, ABX, or related posts will be allowed, they will be deleted promptly.

Let's assume for the sake of discussion here that anyone who talks about the sound of a cable is speaking from personal experience, and expressing his opinion. There is no need to question such percepts and opinions, or demand proof or badger for same.

Technical issues related to cable sonics are welcome, as long as they do not devolve into the demand for DBT proof, etc. It is still assumed that such posts and replies are the considered opinion of those involved, and do not require discussions of DBT's, etc.

I will be as hard pressed as anyone to resist posts about listening tests, etc., but if I can do it, then so can everyone else!

Feel free to comment on this, as I took the job of moderator with the stated intent to keep this section free of such flame-engulfed topics as outlined above.

Hi, Jon

What you propose is actually sub-rules for this forum.

I think the final version of these rules should be
shown as *constant*link* @ Cable Asylum page, say,
near common Asylum rules. Or it can be included as
separate section, say "Cable Asylum sub-rules" into
current Asylum posting rules text.

keep up the good work,
regards, gnat

I can imagine the time you (Jon) already put into responding to the many and varied questions put to you on several of these "forum pages" and am singularly impressed with the fact you accepted the "moderator" postion here.
I'm also very happy that you've set the precedent. If you're delete button wears out I'd be more than happy to supply you with a complimentary replacement keyboard.
Thanks
revjac (and I swear I'm going to build some of your DIY stuff. But summer is sooooooo short up here and the missus do like to golf some. And you may know how important that "missus" part can be!!)

It does state "No DBT" up at the top of the Cables section, I just further clarified this in my opinion, based on the intent of Rod M.

It seems most of the ABX/DBT folks can understand that and it's right there at the top.

First of all, I am not clear as to the subject matter. Is it to cover speaker cables only, or are interconnects included?

That out of the way, it is quite clear that the so-called subjectivists are favored at Audioasylum. Only they can feel insulted; they can make virtually any derogatory or insulting comments about the so-called objectivists and hardly anyone will complain. The so-called objectivists are criticized when they complain of this. That was pretty clear from the first day I came across this site and subsequent experience has confirmed this in spades.

Jon, your position is next to contradictory. Anyone can say anything about their own personal listening tests, but scientifically controlled ones are out. Very strange. This is totally biased and unfair, and it is clear who is dogmatic here, and it is not the D**ers and the A**ers.

Before you accuse me of insulting your professional competence, I think you must be a very competent speaker designer. That's just my layman's judgment, of course, based on reading your posts.

From what I can see, some others such as Thorsten, John Curl, and Brain Cheney (though I have never had the pleasure of hearing any of his speakers) are also very competent and knowledgeable in their fields. On the other hand, I would also judge that some of those who differ from you in audio philosophy, such as jj, Robot Czar, and John Dunlavy (whose speakers I have never had the pleasure of hearing), are also very competent. Mtrycraft is evidently quite well read, likes music, and according to Richard Greene, has a quite decent system. His views are quite sensible and intelligent. He could be more tactful, but many of his opponents are 10 times as obnoxious.

So, with strong censorhip, you will pretty well lose any insight to be gained from their differing opinions.

The subject matter is wire: speaker cables, interconnects, power cords, AC, PLCs, et al.

Take those censorship questions elsewhere. I don't want to hear them on this board.

Jon, feel free to go ahead and delete this message and Pat's. This is not a topic of discussion here.

If you want a D**ers and the A**ers forum, make one.

We're not going down the ABX/DBT death spiral. Been there, done that.

In fact, I propose that pseudonyms be corrected as well. In said cases, postal removal seems extreme, but exposure doesn't. I believe it to be real appropriate.

I still liked PE's former format where they recorded your online `nom de plume' & type it for you if you so desire. I stopped including my eMail address due solely to tedium & not privacy. If this were an option, I wouldn't hesitate to keep it available.

Is there a chance to include a spell check (somehow) in the intermediary preview process?

PS: I love the preview option to check my ascii drwaings!!!

Hi,

>>>

I seriously doubt this. :) So I think some more verbose
explanation would be helpful.

I suggest you to put a *link* under "DBT free" words.

If you're too lazy :) to write the text in some separate
file, let it be just link to *that* thread.

Like this:

This is a DBT free zone.

If you put an absolute ban on DBT/ABX discussions here, then you must also put an ABSOLUTE ban on attacks on them.

If you do one and not the other, all you're doing is creating a forum to bash science.

The purpose of this board is NOT to discuss DBT/ABX at all. PERIOD.

Let's end it here. Bashing is just as bad as the endless death spirals that usually come down to ....... no let's just not go there.

Yes jj, and as I indicated in my post, I will refrain from any comments about DBT/ABX _either_ way, and all those posting here will be expected to as well.

Give me the weekend. I'm a little strapped right now but I'll add something both to the rules and a separate piece linked from the DBT text on the page. I'll get all the menus cleaned up too, I promise ;)

BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!

Thank God for the injection of some "OBJECTIVE SANITY" by jj in his post of July 09,1999.

Nothing like a lot of uncontrolled, "subjective biased opinions" to help guide people as to what they should be listening to, buying, etc. Hmmm!

But then, it is a free country. So Caveat Emptor! And, whoops, the censor is about to ....!
