Hi hi own this amp for 5 years now ,trouble is that they amp shuts down randomly independently of volume or length of playing time , sometimes shutdown minutes into a listening sesssion sometimes one hour later, had the tubes replaced about 2 years ago, the bias seems to be in order, also sometimes it shut down and then y power the amp on again and plays fine for a long time,
I am currently using just two sources with it a blusound node 2 I and a rega planar 3 table.
Any pointers are welcome ,thanks
PD I am the second owner.

Have you checked to make sure all the tubes have been biased correctly and maintaining a bias.

Bias procedure on page 11 of this manual.

I have a version of the 801 that I purchased a long time ago from the manufacturer in Shanghai, back when they were in legal dispute with their Maryland partner. Mine shut down and I couldn't identify anything specific going on, so I opened it up and through a naive attempt at troubleshooting found that one of the solder joints at the base of a power tube was faulty. I suspect that between heating and cooling plus the mechanical act of removing or installing tubes, the joint had worked its way loose. When I resoldered it, things were fine. The only caveat to this is that it takes a very hot iron or else you'll only melt the traces off the board. I can't tell you which joint it was because I simply resoldered all of them where the tube socket meets the circuit board.

Eventually I tinkered again and replaced capacitors to try upgrading the sound (it did) but now I'm back to a non-working amp and need to get into it again and check the solder joints once more.

I hope this helps, I am in no way an experienced technician and the cautions of opening up any tube amp to tinker can be dangerous unless you follow the right protocols apply here.

Good luck, it is a nice amp and I've had many happy years with it!

I was referring to the maintaining the bias I did adjusted the bias about a year ago and still the bias indicator lights seems to be okay, thank you for your help.

Way out of my league, but in another board somebody suggested to try one tube at a time With all the tubes removed the amp did not shutter off, so I started plugging one tube at the time and all of them caused the amp to shut down, I ordered a new set of tube Sveltana this time and will see what happens. thank you for your help.

If you're not comfortable reflowing solder then you should send the amp to be fixed.

An intermittent over heating problem isn't that easy to find. It could be a number of things from a bad solder joint to a failing part.
