Has anyone ever paired the Ultraverve with any of the Rogue Audio power amps? Please share your thoughts on the combination.

I see from your system that you are currently using a Mac 7150. I think one of the tubed Rogue amps would sound wonderful with that preamp. The Class D hybrids may be too much of a shock to your listening tastes. If you're a Jazz type fan then the class D may wash out too much of the midrange magic. You want to keep that midrange fat, yet detailed.

Thats the sound I desire, nice full midrange. I've been looking at the Rogue st_100, and I think I'll get great results. Thanks.

I had the Rogue Stereo 90 Super Magnum tube amp with KT120 power tubes but as I recall, it needs a somewhat "tubey" preamp to sound its best. I say this because I also own the Rogue Cronus Magnum integrated with KT120s. The integrated has its own tube preamp section (of course) and has more of an overall "tubey" sound compared to the ST-90 driven by a SS preamp.

Context:

I took my Rogue ST-90 Super Magnum to a friend's house where he mated it up with a Mark Levinson 326S preamp.... a nice enough preamp, very costly. But the combo overall didn't have much "tube magic" for me. I preferred the Cronus Magnum integrated.

So, I would conclude that the ST-100 should sound its best with a good tube preamp. Hopefully this is the case with your De Havilland.

As an aside, I also had the Rogue Medusa "hybrid" Class D amp. It uses a tube driver and Class D power output modules. I thought it was horrible. It sounded veiled compared to Rogue's all-tube products.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Rogue. I've always liked their products. Looking forward to getting one in my system.

If it doesn't, he should contact me via AA email. :-)

Bet it will though, as the De Havilland Ultraverve is one of the very best sounding tube pre-amp one could hope to own.

I second the UV3, I'm driving a SS Wells Audio Innamoratta with very good results. Very well designed and lush sounding preamp. Being Octal based, 6SN7, I have no inclination of downgrading to a 12AX7 output stage preamp.

I've never heard a De Havilland product but my favorite sounding preamp ever was the Cary SLP-05 based on 6 6SN7 tubes. It actually has 8 6SN7 but two are dedicated to the headphone amp section.

Sorry no, but I can say the deHavilland sounds great with Quicksilver V4s. Much better than the early Quicksilver Remote Preamp we had. More authoritive, better defined bass and depth as it should considering price difference.
I bought our Ultraverve used and after a few weeks the seller wrote asking if he could get it back.
Couple years later we were at an audio show and visited with Kara Chaffe where I mentioned we had an Ultraverve 3 and she immediately asked "who'd you get it from?" I gave her a name and she made an inaudible comment.

Wow, that person sounds like a piece of work. I'm glad you like the UV-3. I think its ne of the best audio purchases I ever made.
