The volume control on my zpre2 recently quit working. I tried to call parasound, but they aren't around today in service. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or, a prognosis on what might be wrong?

Do you mean not responding to the remote? Try replacing the batteries. Or if the batteries are fairly new, just take them out and put back in after a few minutes. This will refresh the remote.

If that doesn't work, try turning the preamp off completely and unplug it for a few minutes before plugging it back in. It as well may only need to be refreshed.

Am assuming you narrowed the issue down to the preamp.

Cheers!

It responds to the remote when I try to change inputs, so I've ruled that out- it also won't change volume when I turn it. Thanks for the advice, I will unplug it and see if that works.

I think it's definitely the pre-amp, I can still change the volume by changing the gain on the pre-3 amp. Let me know if that means something else.

OK. If powering off/on doesn't work, still also try removing the remote batteries.

Sometimes the remote freezes and locks a signal/command. I and other members on the forum were surprised a remote was messing things up in a component. Even though it otherwise appeared to work.

Removing/replacing the batteries did the trick.

Good luck!

Thanks! That fixed it, didn't realize components needed restarts!

Hopefully that fixes it long term.

It's a trick learned from computer people and cable TV providers. Even though the component is turned "off", there is still a trickle of power going to it. So a frozen command becomes stuck in a control chip.

So the list of products would include anything powered by remote, goes to sleep, standby, or any similar mode.

To reset, you need to actually unplug them.

Products that run on both AC and battery power, you may need to take the battery out as well. I've had to do that with laptops and remotes over the years.

Cheers!

I hope that works. Next level of fix starts to get 'ugly'.

I was JUST NOW having problems with my internet. Router would go 'orange' (not good) than blue which is OK.
couldn't figure it out.
Spoke on cell with support and apparently she frightened it into working.
Sometimes THAT works, too.

Computers are funny about that. Sometimes, just UNPLUG and walk away for 10 minutes.
