Ordered one and it will take 12 weeks to get it. Can't wait. It is not popular in this forum but in Audiogon it has a following. I wonder why. Well if someone has it here can you describe the pros and cons of this preamp. Thanks guys.

Had a Chenin with 6922 for phono and 6SN7 for line stage.

Very high gain and could run my low output coils without step ups.

Had Mike Samra and Don Allen do some mods on it. Had damage issues with shipping and ended up selling it. The guy that bought it is in Canada and stayed in contact with him. He loves it.

I have a Leben 28 now with Bobs step up for the coils. Excellent pre and satisfying but got to say that the Tek put out some of the most dynamic and wonderful sound when in my system. I had Bugle boys for the phono and Sylvania chrome 6SN7's and that son of a bitch could sing with that tube combo.

A great preamp. Congrats and hope you enjoy it.

I think you are going to be thrilled with your purchase. I have had each of their preamps and they are all very nice, but the Cabernet is really special. I still own a Cabernet and a Cabernet dual. The downside is they are all microphonic, BUT the microphonics almost sing right along with the music. I wrapped some of my tubes with teflon tape and it helped. The choice of 6sn7's seemed to make a large difference in the voice of the pre.I think you made a great choice!

It comes with a remote but only for volume.

I have a Syrah, can't even remember how long now 14, 15 years? It was mothballed for years when my girls were little. I did have a problem (my stupidity) when I left it in my rack, a salamander with open back and grill front, and the wood expanded such that the volume control wouldn't turn. I turned a bit too hard and something inside got loose. I fired it up months ago and it still works, just a bit of scratchy sound when I use the volume control. It sounds glorious to me. I do wish I had a volume control remote in mine though.

I know if you search here you find some photos of some rats nest wiring, mine is pretty clean for the number of wires in it and looks nothing like those photos. NOS 6sn7's got a little tough to find, and $$$, so I ended up with Tung Sol reissues when my RCA's went. I don't know if he still uses that WE 417A, but those are pricey.

I've not been able to find anyone local to work on it. I had thought of sending to Michael Samra, but he seems to have disappeared from these parts so I deal with the volume control as it is.

Good luck and enjoy the music.

With or without a remote.
