I have it in a second system, turned it on last night, the power light came on and the display barely lit up for a few seconds, then went dead. Switched it off, unplugged it, tried it again, the power switch comes on, but that's it.
No display, no output, so I opened it up and all four fuses test good. No sign of any smoke or burns inside.

I bought it at Best Buy 2 or 3 years ago and its been great, I played it a few days ago with no problem. So now I have to find somewhere to fix it. I could take it to Best Buy but they will probably try to gouge me.
I am in south Florida, any ideas are welcome, I would prefer not to have to ship it, but if I have to i will.

Is there a warranty with that? read it first because it's usually for two or three years.

That's highly unusual that it would blow after only two years?

Contact Rotel and ask for their service centers. Sometimes they will "fudge" the info to make it a warranty covered service.

EDIT: or at least fix it correctly

Rotel's North American warranty for preamps is five years, parts and labor.

Hey, I bought a pair of your modded Maggie's years ago. Wish I still had them!

I am sure Larry at Hollywood Sound would look at it. There is also a place off 826 and Bird in Miami, they just fixed a sunfire sub for me for less than $200.

Good luck!

Hi, how you doing? Which ones was it, the MMGs or the MG12s ?
I miss them too, and have been tempted to get Maggies again if my Tannoys didn't sound and look so lovely.

As for Larry, we parted ways years ago when he didn't like me starting to buy on Audiogon. What's the name of the place in Miami ?

Thanks for the heads up, I figured it was one or two max, can't remember exactly how many years since I bought it, the years go so fast now, I was searching for the paperwork but of course couldn't find it. I will have to go check with Best Buy, they should have a record of it.

It was the MMGs, they were great but once I had kids I needed something a bit more traditional. I can remember one specific listening session where I had them playing through a 45 wpc El34 amp- it was underpowered and dynamics and control were lacking, but the purity and tone through the midband was like I have never experienced. Unbelievable.

Anyway, hear you on Larry. The place in Miami is called Reflections, the guy there is awesome and his shop is even more a step back in time than Hollywood Sound. He was honest and fair. http://www.reflectionselectronicspro.com/

The midrange and the transparency of Maggies is unequaled by most box speakers, but they do have other drawbacks.
I will check out the place in Miami. Thanks

Allan

"This product has a warranty against faulty material and workmanship when used in normal domestic operation for the purpose for which it was designed and is subject to the following conditions:

1. The product is acquired from an authorized Rotel North American dealer and the online registration is completed within 30 days from date of purchase."

Blah, blah, blah, blah.....

I'm not sure if they can hold you to that requirement for online product registration within 30-days.

If it died, bury it.

Retailers won't do a search unless you have the date of purchase. Then they will but it takes awhile.

If you paid cash, you're SOL.

I, too, noticed the registration card statement. I have read in various newspapers over the years that a requirement to send in a warranty card is very rarely enforced. In essentially all cases a product will be accepted for repair under warranty if proof of purchase from an authorized dealer is supplied.

Also, the product owner could have mailed the card on time but it may have been lost in the mail or misplaced by one of the manufacturer's employees.

Further, although this apparently does not apply in this specific instance, many dealers have return periods longer than the card-return time limit. Dealers often state in writing that warranty cards must not be filled out if a product is returned. It is doubtful that a manufacturer would be willing to battle dealers over return policies that void a warranty-card stipulation.

I went to Best Buy today and had them look it up. Turns out i bought it January of 2015, so I am ten months out of warranty.
Boy how time flies when you are having fun.

Anyway, the sales guy tried his best to discourage me from fixing it and just order a new RC 1572 for $1200, saying it could take months to get the parts, and could cost almost what the new one would. I said yeah maybe, I will think about it.

I went home and called the shop that Les recommended, they sounded very good and reasonable so I will be going there tomorrow. I may even take my old Denon 2910 CD player and see what they can do about that. It stopped putting out anything from the analog RCAs awhile ago, so I have been using it as a transport only.
And yes, you guessed it, I bought that from Best Buy also decades ago.

If the cost is ridiculous, I may just get some Schiit, but it would take three pieces of Schiit to replace that preamp, well just two more as I already have a Modi3. So maybe just a Freya and a Loki, then it still wouldn't have blutooth.
Well we shall see.

Sorry about the warranty but it's great you found a shop. If you really like the amp then the cost of repair would still be far cheaper than replacing the entire system.

That is a respectable piece of audio gear. So don't just give up on it.

Best of luck and do post what happens.

It makes no sense that it would take forever to get the parts - Rotel basically just changes the outside of the preamp but often the internals are identical for years and years. Just aesthetic changes.

If you really like the RC 1570 - you might explore the idea of just buying one on the second hand market - compare that to how much it will be to repair yours.

Best Buy is basically useless.

For repairs, that is probably the case. However, that is no surprise. They are a big box retailer -- their only purpose in life is to sell new stuff.
