I have a Musical Fidelity M6sPRE preamp and a LG 55B7P TV. I'm trying to use the apps from the TV but can't figure out how to get the audio from the TV to the preamp.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I looked up the TV and it has an Optical Digital Output. In which case you'd need a cheap DAC (Less than $25 for this).... If you've already got a DAC, it is a simple matter of plugging the TV optical output into the Optical of the DAC.

So, do you have a DAC? - If not, you can get this one that I have for about $13 from Amazon...

Does your LG 55B7P have a line output or a headphone output? Either of those should be able to connect to your preamp.

also, LG's [like many others] do not have signal present at all outputs, you have to choose which one carries signal in their menu ... ie: move from the TV speakers to any external connection & they're off

my old 48" Westinghouse had rca analog outputs that always carried signal so you could supplement the sound with outboard gear or switch between internal & external amplification

regards,

I have an LG OLED TV and you can choose to Have Audio at Both the Internal Speakers and the Optical Digital Output. Which I do.

sweet ... might be older models then [mine isn't that old though] scrubbed the net for a work around ... I found LG support / manuals sorely lacking too

ah well,

regards,

FiiO makes a similarly priced DAC but it doesn't come with all the accessories that the Easycel DAC comes with for a mere $13. However, the FiiO DAC will accept up to 24/192 whereas the Easycel accepts only up to 24/96. Of course, you probably don't need 24/192 if you plan to use it with your TV only. On the other hand, the FiiO has a switch to select either optical or coax inputs so you can have two components connected at the same time.

Ran from the optical out of the TV into the DAC. Ran the RCA's to the back of my preamp into the Tuner white and red. Still not getting any sound on the apps.

The TV/DVR combo works fine. But it is connected by HDMI.

Go into the Menu Settings of the TV and you will probably find some different output options for Sound. As an Example my new LG OLED TV you can specify the internal TV speakers and Optical output. So Both will work at the same time.

Check this out!

I'd forgotten I already had a DAC back behind the credenza. I'm thinking it might have blown out during a storm. Up until now I've been using the apps through my universal player so I wouldn't have known.

I've ordered another DAC to find out.

I went to the sound settings on the TV and clicked "internal speakers and optical", the last option on the page. No sound from the stereo speakers.

I'm running the optical out on the TV to the DAC to the "tape" input on the preamp. The DAC power light is on. No sound from the speakers.

I ordered one of the DAC's you guys recommended and will try it when it comes in.

Meanwhile trying to explain to the Wife why she can't hear "Hamilton" through the big speakers...

And thanks for hanging in there with me.

Oh, so you're saying the DAC you have may be Shot? ..............., posted on July 8, 2020 at 15:27:07

First, I forgot I had one back there, installed years ago when we had a Firestick. I never needed it since then because I started using the universal player for all my apps.

Got a new DAC and all is well.

Thanks for your help and suggestions!
