I have a line stage that I like very much. Wondering if the phono stage of another "full-function" preamp could play through my preamp via the second preamp's tape output?

I have done something very similar. I ran my TVC pre with a NAD pre just using the phono stage of the NAD. I thought it worked well.

Or at least generally, yes.

Using the tape outputs of the "full-function preamp" will bypass the tone controls (assuming it has them) and line level gain stage, feeding the RIAA corrected and amplified phono signal directly into the line stage you like.

Keep the interconnects short.

Glad to hear it worked for you. Hoping for the same for me.
