Have one. Sweet spot in Mac lineup. Swiss army knife: preamp, dac, phono. No issues with sound, but it's a monster and dominates listening area. WAF: too flashy.
Is there an all-in-one or integrated of similar quality and possibly lower cost that looks less flashy?

What do you need in a preamp. Do you need a full linestage, phono and DAC, RCA and balanced inputs, etc...

Just an opinion, but I would NOT get anything with a built in DAC or streamer. That technology is in flux and will change. Remember cassettes? Besides being the most likely part to fail in a system.

What amp are you using with the Mac and have you considered an integrated, there are some really nice ones out there now, and a separate DAC/streamer.

Integrated fine.
DACs have reached the point where a $300 may give acceptable sound.
Amp ATI N-core

that's too bad your wife thinks it's too flashy, it seems to be one of the less 'flashy' things in their lineup. I had a C220 for several years, my wife really liked the looks (very similar actually). It was the only thing she EVER commented on, saying it 'looks cool' when I put it in the system. She agreed it sounded very good. Otherwise, nary a peep from her about my 'obsession' with audio. Well, a few half-joking complaints every so often, at least I hope they were 1/2 joking. Oh well.

you'll thank me when you're selling this crap off at my estate sale.

He was a good man, crazy when it came to stereos, but a good man.

My wife would sell it to the first taker and for whatever they wanted to pay. I figure most of the stuff is from the 90's so a fair estimate is it will be 65+ years old. Most people wouldn't know what it is.
