Has anyone tried a Plinius amplifier with a passive control unit?? Specifically I would like to mate a Reference Line Preeminence 2 with a Plinius SA50mkIII. Thanks for any opinions/information.

I've been using an FT-Audio LW-1 in front of an SA100/3 with great results (IMHO) for several months now. Certainly none of the usual problems attributed to passive units (lack of bass drive, gain, dynamics) has ever showed up in my system. I'm unfortunately not familiar with the Reference Line unit you mention, however, so I suppose you'll have to try it out in our system before drawing any conclusion. Sorry I can't be of more help.

What is your cd source with the FT and the Plinius SA100 ?
I'm thinking of using the LW-1 with the 8200 poweramp. Any thoughts?

I'm currently using a CAL CL-20 with the LW-1/Plinius combination. Before that, I briefly used a Panasonic A-120 and before that still, a Marantz CD-63. I also used a Granite # 657 for two weeks with the current set-up. I never experienced any of the problems usually attributed to passive units.
I haven't heard the 8200P, I'm afraid, but my guess is it'd likely work fine; at least it's worth a try. According to the Plinius literature I have here, both the 8200P and the SA100/3 have the same input impedance (47K Ohms). Sorry for not being more helpful. I'm almost certain Paul Lam would have more to say on the LW-1/8200 combination. If you haven't already done so, send him a note; he's a very decent and fair-minded guy, IMO.
