Got a deal on the 'gon. Someone just happened to be selling one made for the Rega arm on Michell (standard Rega offset). I have several protractors, mirrored ones, ones that came with the table, custom printed, printed on paper, etc. All work well, and I'm familiar with the process.
This thing is not rocket science, but it is more precision than any of my other protractors. What it does do is allow very precise adjustments. Very fine lines are printed, plus a nice set of lines to make sure you're on center using the mirror parralax effect.
Anyway, after a couple hours of tweaking (this thing will test your patience...and my setup wasn't that far off, but it was off) I was rewarded with better stereo separation, imaging, and clarity. It really wasn't subtle.
Franky, I was surprised by the difference.
Great tool!
Follow Ups:
I have a rega P7 my vendor set up for me when I bought it (using the Rega supplied gauge). With the MintLP I can see my Effective length/overhang is wrong - and not by a little bit. I veen to move my cartridge fwd probably at least 5mm. I need to set aside a block of time to do this - I know it will try my patience. I need to do it and get it over with. My cartridge is a DV20X-H.
