So Robert Harley raved about this album in the June/July issue of TAS. Last week, Music Direct sent out an e-mail saying that only 5000 copies of vinyl would be produced worldwide, and they would start selling last week.I am in Seattle for work this week. I walked into an indie record store here in Seattle last night, and they got like 10 copies. I did a search online, the only review I found was on UK Amazon, and the guy said that the vinyl sounded worse than the CD.
Anyone bought a copy? Are there different vinyl issues? The ones in the indie store had the "made in holland" sticker on the back selling for the same price as Music Direct.
Follow Ups:
I heard a couple of tracks from the LP in the Soundsmith room at HE2007. Of course it was a totally unfamiliar system but given that I thought the record sounded very good. Those who griped about the entire concept of Love when it first came out missed an important aspect of the project: this is the first time any Beatles material has been remastered from the original tapes in a quarter - century.
Is this really true? I know Rubber Soul, Revolver, and Sgt. P. were remixed and remastered for CD, though I suppose not necessarily from the original tapes. And what about the Yellow Submarine "Songtrack"? I'm pretty sure they did go back to the original tapes for that one, which was kind of a dry run for the Love project anyway.(I actually prefer the Rubber Soul mix on CD to the original, heretical as that may be to say.)

Mine has the "made in holland" sticker too. Tuesday I stop in the local indie music store here in Greenville SC and they've got a copy in the bin. I was sorry I'd ordered it from MD. Even though they've always done me right, I like to support local vinyl when I can. Oh well.I can't say anything about how it sounds. I haven't played mine either. Maybe if it really does sound crappier than the CD I'll just leave it sealed.
It is truly awesome sounding! Keep in mind I also own the deluxe cd set, and have the DVD-Audio version too (and a hi-rez DVD-A player obviously). There is No compairison here with this LP versus the cd version. Whoever said the cd version was better either has a really poor TT or it's severly misaligned! I did not compare the LP versus the DVD-A version yet, but it sounds like to me from memory it will be a close match. The vinyl will probably be warmer and more dimensional and natural sounding I'm betting (as usual). This LP has SERIOUS BASS. I had to back my subs off some 3dB to get the bass in line for my system! For the DVD-A version, it also had this same "super rich" sound on the bottom end.
The clarity, openness, transparency and purity of the opening track "Because" had me grinning from ear to ear! Not to be missed....
I bought the DVD-Audio version back before the LP was even announced.
The DVD-A is a 5.1 mix. The LP uses the dedicated stereo mix. Two entirely different animals. Plus the mixing and mastering of the stereo and 5.1 mixes on the CD/DVD were done by entirely different people. And there is no hi-res (DVD-A) stereo version on the DVD -- only 16/48 PCM.IMHO, the DVD-A 5.1 was nicely done; the stereo mix/mastering version is passable, but that's about it. Since the LP apparently uses the edited versions of Revolution and USSR found only on the CD, I suspect that, at best, the 16/44 master was used for this LP. I would be curious to find out if the LP was a new mastering using the digital master or whether it was just cut straight from an eq'd CD digital "cutting" master (for lack of a better term), i.e. identical to the CD.
The only true comparison would be to compare the LP to the CD -- or perhaps the stereo 16/48 version on the DVD.
I have a copy but haven't opened it yet because frankly I can't really see myself listening to it much. Maybe I'll change my mind...
If when I have the DVD-A version set to stereo and my player is displaying "24 bit 96kHz 2.1 channels"??
Should be able to later tonight!
Bought it but have not cracked it open yet! I have the DVD-A version too so it better be at least as good as that!!!
