This time I'm posting a pic of my own TD124. It has the Graham 2.2 tonearm with Ortofon Jubilee mounted. The armboard material is 1/2 inch thick Ebony. Plinth is solid Slate.-Steve

That arm looks extremely modern on that old Thorens. More so that it did on the Teres. It sure makes you look at the table over and over not knowing how to fit the whole togeter except as a complementary zeitgeist of engineering past and present. The look is contrasting but intrigueing.wow. look at all those words and I didn't get any Malt at all.
That Graham looks sexy wherever it gets parked. I bet it would look cool on a TD111. 'Likely sound good too!Zeitgeist or no, I thought the two were complimentary in the looks dept. The sound is quite different between that of the Expressimo and the Graham. The Graham is so much more refined while the Expressimo is more "edgy".

Will you be giving that a try seeing what the Thorens does?
Look forward to more photos and details. Thanks! D.P.
Just beautiful! Great work.

This mouse-hole's eye view looks good.... could we see more please ?But more important ...how thick ? Single or multiple layers of slate ? What's the interior contour like ? How are you attaching the td124 ?
And that's just the beginning ....
"This mouse-hole's eye view looks good.... could we see more please ?"More photos to come in the next few weeks.
"But more important ...how thick ?"2 inch thick slabs
"Single or multiple layers of slate ? How are you attaching the td124 ?"
Two slabs arranged in a two-tier skeleton. No metal fasteners except for the draw-studs that secure the cast chassis to the upper slab.
"What's the interior contour like ?"
Curvy, as massive as is possible and waterjet-cut based on a cad drawing. How's that?

Looks great Steve -- ...what we can see of it ...Good luck with it. And my condolences to the teres ....
I do too, I could go on and on about how fine your project looks and how well thought out and executed the table looks....but naw....I will just say ENJOY!And remember to visit us between listening sessions. You could get lost for a week listening to a nice rig.
Hi Tubes.
I don't know if I'd call it a "craze" or maybe something else. I like to think that a lot of folks are now coming to realize that these old idlers just bring out the best that vinyl has to offer. Thanks for the kind comments. I do have to admit it is hard to keep focussed on anything except for the music coming out of that Thorens.

That is too cool. Water jets....who would have guessed.....I can listen to my idler for an entire day and wish the time did not go so fast. There is a life like quality to the sound reproduction that really gets to the soul of the performance.
it looks beautiful! Congratulations and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to hear about the change in sound you've created via the slate, Graham, and Ortofon. Yowza! Did the Expressimo arm and Denon cart go back to the Teres?
Hi Jim.
The Expressimo and DL go back into my meager collection of arms and carts, stored for unknown future uses. At this moment I'm entertaining the thought of putting the Teres back in its box in the closet. This TD124 sounds really sweet the way it is now.-Steve

Not ready to separate.....parting is such sweet sorrow.Just remember the feel, the look, and the sound of that idler and realize there is no going back. Put the Teres money into better cartridges. (Not that the Ortofon is any slouch.)
I could build a direct drive to sound as good as an idler, but it would never have the same aesthetics or simplicity. There is something holistically soothing about a custom idler and the way they bring the midrange right into sharp focus.
I always wondered why the radio station records sounded different than my belt drives when I was in College. Now I know exactly why they sounded different. Idle magic!
