Some days are worse than others....;-)

That illustration could work on the front cover of a pulp paperback collection of short stories. One story of which could involve this tortured, angst-ridden soul. Fiction or non-fiction. Let the reader guess. Or maybe our friend has finally passed over into the Twilight Zone. Make that science fiction.I submit for your consideration one obsessive audiophile named Joe. 56. Joe just took out a second mortgage on his home. The new money bought a $300k "GoldVac" record player. Machine of his dreams......

...the thing that Bruce and I had in mind when we worked up this 'toon. Then again, as a guy who sold a Porsche 928GT to afford his Walker Audio Proscenium, I should talk....
;-)
Twilight Zone, indeed!
All the best,

Reminds me of a story told to me by Michael Ghindi about a review sample vdH Grasshopper, a cashmere sweater, perhaps an adult beverage or two, and an original "Cool Struttin".
Jack, that's the *second* torn-off cantilever story related to me in the past hour, in response to our cartoon. That's what I get for trying to share something funny!:-)
I had a maid do the same thing to my Arkiv cartridge on my LP-12 with a dust rag, though she (and her company) adamantly denied responsibility. Cotton can be just as bad as cashmere.
Sweaters, booze and cartridges: a really vile combination.
All the best,
that cartoon portrays vinyl-lovers as crusty old men who care about collecting records and such -- whose life revolves around it. i know that's true for a segment of folks...but what about us younger peeps? :)
albums are meant to be played, shtuff happens, and it's no big deal.
i think the more interesting sub-commentary (unintended?) is that it's a sad statement when people are so singularly focused that their world is records and the value of their gear, collectibles, etc.
...about *precisely* that kind of mentality, younger peep! It's OK to laugh at obsession and excess...and sometimes legitimate passion, even. Otherwise we lose all sense of proportion.
(We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming....)
All the best,
i know it's a joke... but i didn't think it was too funny. (sorry)i guess maybe there are too many people like that around that -- sort of makes me sad as people think that everyone into vinyl is (a) obsessed or (b) old & crusty.
then again, there was a gathering of "pholks" (clue) from another mailing list... and they were all either some form of that stereotype or uber-geeky. kinda depressing, actually.
