I know this has been discussed in this forum before but it appears to be sometime ago and related to the predecessors of the P3. I was wondering if anyone else with the Rega P3 is having issues with the motor clicking. I 've checked and it's not the belt it's definetly the motor. I just purchased the unit new from and authorized dealer 3 days ago, so it will be going back but I'm trying to decide if this is poor components, design or workmanship. I may switvh to another alternative. Any comments would be appreciated.

The dealer quickly processed my request for are fund. They are very reputable. They tested and found no issues with the unit. Maybe the P3 is just to sensitive for my system. Please always judge for yourself when purchasing a table as only your ears and requirements should be used in making a decision on a purchase.
My Moth/Rega clicked for about the first week I used it, then it went away.
The hum probably has nothing at all to do with the TT. I was picking up a serious hum in my unit and even posted here about it a few weeks ago.
The source was the fluorescent light fixture in the room below. The subwoofer amp picks it up, too, thus magnifying the effect.
Before you return the TT, make sure all the cartridge leads are correctly installed as this can be another source of hum.

As an update I have decided that I will be returning the P3 and cartridge for a refund. There was significant hum in the unit and this is with a Super Elys cartridge. I did the test of moving the tonearm across the record and the hum gets very loud near the center of the record. I also unplugged the turntable from the PP2 and there was no hum what so ever from the phono preamp. I guess their design of no grounding cable is pretty poor. When the Linn Axis I have was hooked to this system it was extremely quiet, never any hum. Although this is an entry level table, at $1,100 for the table and cartridge I expected good music with no issues. No more Rega products for me.
The problems you are having are not common to the ten of thousands of other Rega owners around the world. They seem to be your own individual problems. That you are unhappy with the result is easy to see -- to assume that this is the norm for all of us other happy Rega owners is misguided.Sounds like a dealer problem more than anything else. Dealer overpricing and failing with proper set up. I'd blame your dealer not Rega.
Sorry to hear that but typicall street price for P3 is $650, the cartidge list is $400 (as much as I know). If you bought combo, dealer should not ask for more than $900-950 top, list $1050.Now, that you read asylum before buying you could've found some interesting info:
Hum is probably NOT due to the lack of the ground, Rega has ground incorporated in the minus lead. If cartdige is as I think unshealded it will hupp on all tables with unshealded motors including Linn. Otherwise you may want to play with the ground - one configuration is not good for all combinations.
Rega Cartridges are not anything special and for the US price they are bad deal. There is number of better cartrdiges for less.
Recently there were P25 tables for $850 new, with less than $100 AT or Shure or Ortofon cartrdige will be much better than what you have.
Who should be blamed for the putting the $400 cartridge on $650 table?
Who should be blamed for using that combo with PP2?Better table and arm with cheaper cartridge will sound better in the same system that oposite. But feed that to not so good phono stage and you will lose what you gained.
Did you listened to the combo prior to the purchase? If you did and if it sounded good to you than either you did not listen carefully, or something is realy wrong with your setup. I had Several Regas and number of cartidges and until recently Plinius 8100 with Dyn 70, i.e. system almost the same although without many of the gadgets you have.
Anyway, before exchange, take it to the dealer and attach to his system. If it sounds any diffrent than his table etc. than your is faulty, if not than your system is.
But no matter what, if dealer pushed you into the above deal run as fast as you can away from him. He was after quick money and not your satisfaction as a customer. If you however chose the system than blame youself.
since the motor was hanging on the rubber belt. It should not happen on the new P2000 model since motor ir 'rigidly' attached. If it does not go away in a couple of days of playing take it back.
...and noticed this, but it should improve. The belt had nothing to do with it as I was using a broken in belt.
Does it click persistently or just at start up? If the latter, give it some time. They do that until the belt wears in -- at least my P2 did when new and when I've replaced teh belt.
Unfortunately it's doing it all the time. The dealer responded to an email and said it's normal "break in" and that if it's not OK by Tuesday bring it in. I'm going to let the table run through the weekend and see if it goes away. The odd thing is that for the first two (2) days since purchasing it there was no noise.
When i bought a new P2, the motor seemed to be making a grinding type noise at first. IIRC, after a run in it cleared up. I also had to replace the belt, which was 'pinging back' on the hub as it turned, causing VERY noticeable speed instability.
It may be a budget deck, but at £200, i at least expect a deck that does the basics.
