Here is the link:Any users here ? Anyone tried comparing it to Koetsus, Clearaudios, vdHul ?

Yes excellent site and great Macro pics, indeed a pleasure to see clean presentation.
Basically the JA is smooth as Silk--lush not aggressive--maybe a bit too laid back for some, but loaded correctly will deliver music as sweetly as virtually no other cartridge--and I've owned most of the top ones.
A precise--It has the mid range beauty of the Koetsu( still one of my favs!). the attack (almost!) of the Decca, soundstage width of the venerable EMT( I strip em' down)leaving the Vdh in a sort of a no-mans land --my impression of all Vdh's is the music seems to come across 'louder ' and more'in ya' face'--but the emotion is not there,I like the carts overall but they are are tad uninvolving. You know my thoughts on Clearaudio--would'nt have one again --anyhow up against my Clearaudio Signature the JA blew it away!--no contest
Another poster on this forum( and a personal friend) had the Clearaudio Insider Reference--and his JA stomped that as well--my observation rests that the Clearaudios are over rated ,overpriced and overhyped--not for moi!I also have had dialogue and information promptly and courteously from the designer himself--usually next day E-mail-his rebuilding program is extremely fair and honest i.e. for my model it is approx $290USD
I live in the wop-wop( 1500 mls from the nearest hi-end Dealer) and good service and backup from the maker is indeed a priority--do I recommend the JA Cartridges?-- indeed!,try one if you can and judge for yourself.
Good listening,
Des
Des provides an excllent description of the sonic attributes of the Jan Allaerts MC1 Boron II. I have heard this cart mounted on a Moerch DP6 tonearm and Scheu turntable. It is by far the most "musically involving" cart I've heard. I've sampled Jazz, Classical and some Rock in this setup. It was just totally natural - nothing stood out. The kind of experience where you give up trying to analyze its sonic attributes and just be enveloped by the music. I would very highly recommend a listen. I believe that the stellar Hi-Fi+ Review was justified.
I tried that web site and it seemed to get permanently stuck. Any clues??

I'm always annoyed with sites that are specifically written for Internet Explorer (for example, www.aca.gr). In this case, it must be a small incompatibility with Netscape, rather than a lack of adherence to the standards, because the Web site works well under Opera. As others have noted, bloody amazing close-ups of the guts of the cartridges.

Metralla
Not sure, maybe PC memory problems or Netscape ? Works fine for me, using Microsoft Explorer ...
I think the re-direct function was intended to make the site not work with Netscape, and nothing else. (Although it *does* work with *older* versions of Netscape.)Direct link below...
,
in my opinion, not making a site compatible with browsers besides MSIE, or at least Netscape-unfriendly. Saying it's the user's problem isn't acceptable, in my book, it's programmer laziness and, dare I say, pigheaded. It's just not a big deal making it work for everyone. 12% or so of people who visit the CAS website are using Netscape, which I wouldn't say is insignificant.

Uhh, did I say it was the users mistake or what? After i tried it with netscape (which use myself, i belong to the about 2% in the Netherlands that still uses Netscape) I tried it again with ie5.0. I just mentioned i worked ok then.

and you'll see my remark about ignorance was directed at webmasters and the business owners who support their proprietary coding, not at you. Perhaps you read the subject line and thought you were being attacked.
Brian Walsh
and also this line:
'Saying it's the user's problem isn't acceptable, in my book, it's programmer laziness and, dare I say, pigheaded'
Just took it wrong i guess (because i agree with the programmer laziness bit).
But now i have to continue packing, there is a greek island waiting for me. So, for me, 3 weeks without vinyl, i just take cd's with me.
I think the beer an beach part will be a little comfort...

I still say it's pigheaded. There's a big difference between doing the minimum to get the job done correctly (which in my book, means making it work with all browsers in common use, which certainly includes Netscape) and just being lazy, which means not caring about the other 13% or so (from my site statistics) who don't use IE. A good example of the latter is the aca.gr site, as Metralla pointed out in this thread. It's a shame, as the content is good - but if you make it difficult or impossible for people to visit your site, they won't. Most often it's innocent ignorance, other times it's just an arrogant attitude saying "You don't use MSIE? What's the matter with you?" Ahem, there's nothing the matter with me. I avoid MS software as a matter of choice, having been screwed out of money, time, and productivity by that company which refuses to fix the very poor stuff they make.

reminds of the first time i saw good pics of a Jaeger mechanism. no doubt these hang out in the same $osphere?
The key cartridge is the MC1B, which costs Euro 1950 over here.
For the same money it can (still?) be had with a sapphire
cantilever (MC1S), which is fragile but allegedly sounds even
more musical.
Heard the MC1B with a Shroeder Reference on a Verdier. Very impressed. Faultless, even lovely detail and reproduction of the recorded acoustic. One of the most convinicing sources I've come across. Ended up going for an MC1S based on the one listen. Coming in a few weeks. Will post impressions
Those are the best cartridge and stylus photos I've ever seen -- stupendous detail, particularly when you consider that it needs to be reduced to JPEG resolution for the web!I've been curious about Allaerts cartridges since I read a review of one in Hi-Fi+ last year. I wish I had a chance to hear one.
J!
