The last survivor of the original lineup of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Spinning Sweet Home Alabama once again.
"The torture never stops"Greetings Freek.
Follow Ups:
Was pretty devastated by the plane crash that ended that
phase of the band and never really followed them afterward.
Enjoyed hearing their songs but haven't owned a LS LP in
40 years.
VERY much enjoyed the (linked) documentary, it puts much
into perspective about LS, they were dedicated musicians.
Rossington was an integral part of that.
RIP.
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
I just heard today he played the guitar introduction on "Sweet home Alabama". I doubt there are few players heard by more people in america.I never appreciated that the song "sweet home Alabama" basically dismissed Neil Young's criticism of slavery in the south in the song "Southern Man" as something that was irrelevant , that they didn't need a discussion anyhow.
I prefer to think a successful afterlife is dependent on deeds, not philosophy. so hope he is ok.

According to Wikipedia, Rossington also played lead on "Tuesday's Gone," which is probably my favorite Skynyrd song, though "Simple Man," is close, also a Rossington lead.
He also played slide on "Free Bird," and thus is likely at least partially responsible for the emptying of approximately 284,323 Bic lighters held aloft at Skynyrd concerts. Hopefully there's no accounting for contributing to global warming at the pearly gates...
in truth , he made that free bird fly.without the stellar instrumentation it would be just another country song about a guy stuck in his ways , which is usually not connected with good life outcomes, but the guitar work lifts it into the sky, and creates a feeling that resisting growth and change is not important, life is something to be celebrated, get on board.
