Well... it turns out that I don't have an Audio Origami modded RB250, so now I'm sitting on a $100 white elephant. In the words of Emily Litella: Never Mind!
Note: Most likely anyone under 60 won't get the title reference, but it's from a late 50's early 60's TV show.

I tried an RB-250 back when they were in vogue. Did all the usual things, re-wire, dropped counterweight, etc. It was no better than the SME II or the II Improved (a misnomer if there ever was one) which isn't saying a lot.
The real "giant-killer" of the Eighties and Nineties was the Audio Technica AT-1005, straight out of the box. Likely no one here has had the pleasure but there you jolly well are, aren't you.
There's no virtue in being old,
it just takes a long time
But it's Japanese - it can't possibly be any good! (Said with British tongue firmly in cheek, as a long time user of AT arms and current maker of highly upgraded AT-1010 arms.)
I found this conversation about your tonearm mods very interesting. Still at it?

Yes, still at it! Although at reduced pace these days - age and a heart attack have slowed me down. Things have moved on since the conversation you found -
So, what do you have if it's not a OL arm?
Just curious.

Freak out...Far out...In out....
It's a modded Rega RB250 with an odd counterweight, but I can't find out which company modded this. I heard back from Audio Origami, and they confirmed that it isn't one of their mods. It looks like it was stripped, and then powder-coated silver. I'm tempted to put it on my SOTA Comet, just for the heck of it, but I'm also looking for an arm-less table to match it with.

Johnny actually played a 'young gun' that Palladin coached in one episode!
he went a bit power mad and challenged him to a duel that didn't end well
for him anyway
nice reference, it's my favorite TV western!
