Frankly, I wasn't taken with it. It reminded me of the Denon DP-75 that I had for many years. The sound was OK, but it seemed a bit dead, as if there was a light blanket hanging in front of it.There was detail and clarity, but no depth to it. Soundstage was a bit compressed and smaller than I had expected.
I do understand that the P10 is a different design, but the tonearm is not. I think that not having VTA on the fly is a serious omission to the turntable. The solution for arm height adjustment with split shims is a bit ridiculous.
I tried the P9/RB1000 with a number of cartridges, as that would be an obvious thing to do. I went from a Dynavector DV-20XH to the Rega Apheta. That didn't work out, a Shelter 501 made no improvement either.
I traded in the Rega for a Clearaudio Innovation Compact/Universal tonearm and have been happy with that combination ever since.
I think the Rega sound is something that does appeal to a lot of people, I just didn't happen to be one of them.

Like you I was never a Rega fan. I thought P9 at 5k was a waste of money. It was musically insipid and bland.
But ever since their intro of P6, I think their deck became much more involving. since them I listened to the P8 which I was mighty impressed enjoyed.k btw, I compared it to P9 side by side. What a difference.
A friend got a P10 a while ago ( with Apheta 3 ) and love the deck.
I live in the boonies - about 4 hours north of Toronto. All of my musical purchases are based on what's available and on reviews.
That may sound ridiculous, but the option of "try it at home" just doesn't exist.
I understand the P10 is well thought of as compared to the P9, but then remind myself of all the glowing reviews the P9 received from so many.
I have a Clearaudio Innovation Compact now with the Universal tonearm and the VTA lifter. I like the sound of it, it's likely the best turntable I have owned.
However, after having recorded over 1,500 LPs and not buying them any more, I can see a future without any turntable.
Supposedly the Planar 8 blows the P9 away and the Planar 10 is worth the money over the Planar 8.
You say your P9 sounded like your DP-75 well how do we know both those tables allowed you to hear the support you had them on or the phono section you were using or the rest of the equipment you were playing them through? That's why they sounded the same.
Then we also don't know that the ClearAudio masked the sound of those other things, or just wasn't effected by them, and you just like the way that TT sounds.
Just saying.
I thought this was an Audio forum where we could discuss things. Unfortunately, it's too late for me to delete my post as it's been replied to, but I do apologize for upsetting you.
It won't happen again.
Excuse me for challenging the veracity of your comments. Instead you dodge by playing the apologetic victimizer card. That gets a B- for blowing smoke.

But I could be wrong and perhaps they are identical?
It does. Not much different from the RB1000, apparently. I think the bearings are different, although I'm unclear as to how that can be improved.
