I haven't followed OMA's product line closely. The last I knew they were offering plinths for classic platter motor units cut from slate. Now however their site shows only one and it is a type of cast iron!

Follow Ups:
Hypoeutectic "iron" is an alloy that precipitates in the austenite phase which has a Curie temperature below ambient. The alloy components are similar to those in a 300 series stainless steel which are also austenitic. If a material is above its Curie point it cannot maintain separate magnetic domains and thus the dipoles cannot align.Translation: it's not magnetic.
I don't buy the blather about its advantages but then I don't buy any of what OMA is spruiking.

What do they make actual bells from anyway? Could it be cast metal?
"The underside of the plinth features a spider web of cast chambers filled with a vibration damping polymer."
LOL, spider web of polymer filled chambers would not be needed if the platter itself was made of polymer, as in my MMF7 tt.
If art interprets our dreams, the computer executes them in the guise of programs!
The head shell looks interesting, for the price it better work though at zero resonance.

I was aware of this product. What I wonder is, in the case of the SP10 Mk3, would the vast mass of iron surrounding the massive circular magnet structure (essentially, the rotor) that is attached to the platter in some way compromise motor performance? I don't know whether this potential issue would apply to the SP10R, which uses a coreless motor presumably with a smaller magnet that is contained within a shielded structure.
Lew, when I saw it I wondered if they include some sort of magnetic shield?

Maybe I worry too much. It would be interesting to know what OMA would say to this question, but I am not about to ask. The iron plinth is targeted, it seems, to the SP10R, where the possibility of interference with the motor operation is much less than it is in the case of the SP10Mk3, I am guessing without having seen the SP10R motor.

The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
