but besides the Allman's Skynyrd was the most popular around these here parts on the radio and for bar bands. NJ had a wild ride with the 18 drinking age while it lasted.
Nobody did any Molly unless it was college radio. "NYC you're so big and tough"
not any more
Follow Ups:
Knowing the local rawk station, they probably still do. The Seventies never ended on WDVE.
The Outlaws were in heavy rotation, too. The aforementioned radio station even broadcast one of their live appearances in Pittsburgh.
IMO, Ronnie Van Zandt was a terrific songwriter, and I'd rank Lynyrd Skynyrd ahead of the Allman Brothers Band. Not by much, though I tend to dock the Allmans a bit because Greg, you know, married Cher. I could ignore his smack addiction but Cher? Puh-leeze.
The rest of them were pretty much indistinguishable. Friend of mine was heavily into Hatchet/.38 Special but I could never tell the difference. The Outlaws had a couple of decent tunes on Hurry Sundown .
The Drive-By Truckers have an entire LP dedicated to Skynyrd (it's Southern Rock Opera ) and it's excellent.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
Come on Ghost, I usually agree with you on most things, but LS better than the Allman Brothers???
No way in hell. Not even close.
As far as 38 Special goes, I consider them one of the best pop bands ever.
They had some seriously gnarly hooks.
.
Freak out...Far out...In out....
You know what they say about opinions.
I love the Allmans up to and including Brothers and Sisters but I think they went downhill sharply after that.
LS was getting better and better up until the plane hit the swamp.
.38 Special just never did anything for me. I got heavy exposure via a couple of friends of mine, but nothing ever stuck in my head.

Once I finished my 7 year tour of The World's Great Universities and was forced to graduate in '71 I never bought another rock album.

and probably arranged somehow. All those women he must have met and her?
Next time I go to a record shop I'll have to check for the Truckers. Maybe spring will come someday, now it's sleet on top of snow. Tonight's gonna be bad.
I still have my Allman's double live and wow they played so well. That's one of many reasons I don't ride anymore.
of Allman and Woman , the album Cher and Greg did together: "A new low for Greg, more of the same from Cher."
Might have been Bob Christgau.
I've a hankering for some record store action myself but the weather here is just as lousy. Maybe Saturday morning.
Ironically, I might be able to get the bicycle out next week. We've got one day, forecast high is near 50. Hell of a lot of snow needs to melt off first though.

And my Fedex trucker left some burg named Dahinda, Il at 1 P.M. today. Still on schedule for tomorrow's delivery.

gloomy and cold. Single-digit lows. Warmer Monday and Tuesday but more snow.
No ice melt to be had. This situation isn't helped when Lowes and HD ditch ice melt for grass seed and mulch in mid-February which they do every year.
