Thinking about adding a turntable to my system. I'm thinking maybe the Rega Planar 6, but looking at a review that says the Planar 6 needs careful system matching. I have Parasound A21+ Amp, Parasound P6 Preamp, and Focal Aria 936 Speakers. Does anyone think that this would be a good match? If not what would you recommend? Thanks.

I would suggest also looking at a Technics 1500c with a Nagaoka MP200 cartridge.

Throwing a bunch of components selected off a recommended list into a system and expecting the best?
I've always thought the components in the vinyl front end always needed to be carefully selected in order to highlight the strengths of the selected components and like any other component to satisfy the subjective preferences of the owner.
Thanks all for the replies. Sounds like the Rega could be what I'm looking for, but, after reading the thread by viridian, sounds like maybe I shouldn't buy online. There is a dealer 2 hours from where I live. There is also the one where I bought the Parasound from, but he carries the Thorens TD 309 Tri-Balance Turntable for around the same price. Is anyone familiar with that one? Thanks.
....no comment on it, as I think that it speaks for itself.
And I am no Rega hater, currently owning two Regas and having had one, at most times, over the last 40 years.
I will speak to the Ania however. I think that any cartridge, at this price point, sporting a bonded elliptical stylus is not good VFM. I think that the Exact, with it's nude mounted, square shank, Ogura Vital stylus, is better value, if you don't want to mess with spacers, and you are happy with a warmer sound signature. The Ania Pro is also a really great sounding cartridge, but you would need to stretch to the next price level to afford it.
There are, of course, many high value non-Rega cartridges that will match well with that arm. You can certainly feel confident with cartridges at least to the $1500 range.
I got to listen to one. I was floored when I have heard how much it was! I would have never guessed it had a bonded stylus.
Which phono stage did you use with Ania?
...that the Elys and the Ania are described as having an elliptical stylus and the Ania Pro as well as the better cartridges in the line, a nude mounted stylus.I used the Rega Aria, now sold, the original, steel body Black Cube and a Denon AU320 into the phono stage of a modded Precision Fidelity C8.
The Ania struggled on the inner grooves and, anecdotally, that is what you read. IMHO an YMMV, I do not consider it a very good value.

many of my favourite carts have a nude elliptical stylus.
if it has a bonded stylus, Rega should have stated explicitly.
I don't recall Ania struggling on inner grooves on both on RP10 and LP12. Phono we used was a Naim Superline with Supercap PSU. ( I know it's over the top but it was much better than a Rega phono a dealer originally hooked up to )
As long as you can accept a MC cart, of which the Ania is, then you should have no problems, assuming the pre has enough gain to support the Ania's output.
Other than that, the table itself is not difficult to match.
That said, What HiFi? is a poor choice for reviews.
Also, the Elys is not the best cart performance wise for the price it's sold at, at full retail.
I have the P6, got mine about a month before Ghostie got his and I run mine with a Muffsy PP4 phono pre into a NAD 7240PE receiver and some vintage ADS L810 speakers. Cart is the Grado Prestige Green 1, sounds very good but would do better with a better cart at the very minimum.
For me, that is a catch phrase meaning that the reviewer had some reservations about the sound of the item he was reviewing, but for is own private reasons he didn't want to be specific. By itself, the idea does not make much sense without some specific information to go with it. For example, if the turntable is bass shy, maybe you want to integrate it into a system that is a bit bass heavy. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
1. That is unusual to see that in a Rega turntable IMO. Seems like it was improperly stored at one time.
2. I think you want to think about matching the cartridge to your system perhaps. At that price point, however, I don't think that should be a concern, though not knowing anything specific about the Ania.
I suggest you get it replaced under warranty, certainly. Don't know if it would impact the sound, but it does impact the esthetics, making it look cheap like it was ready to melt or something.

It's usually worthwhile matching load (Ania said to be v.sensitive) but beyond that...
Looks like you are referencing the review
They explain "system matching" as the level of competence, not what we would normally think of with that phrase. Nothing to do with voicing. It should work fine in your system.
Whatever your source is for that little tidbit, don't listen to it.
If this is any help...my system is a Hafler DH101 preamp, Hafler DH-200 amp, Maggie MMG speakers, Stax Lambda Pro headphones with Stax headphone amp.
I'm not using Rega's cartridge, got an AT VM540ML which, IMO is a much better cart than the Rega Exact. Never heard the Ania. Phono stage is an MS Phonomena II+.
The Rega is superb in my system.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
jeez, this is much the same system I had. I loved it to no end, it was so satisfying and so called musical. Those MMG's were wonderful.

System matching when it comes to playing a record is a load of old bollocks. I'd suggest not reading reviews that suggest system matching with a turntable is important.
