Events took my original record collection in the 90s and I somehow didn't add any of their albums in collection Part II. This week I remedied that with a used ABC 'Yer Album' and the MoFi 'Rides Again'.
Tom Kriss' work on the former is more outstanding than I recalled, Joe's less so, still finding his sound. Jimmy the Metronome, on the few occasions he cuts loose with a riff in song, not solos, is as good as any Rock drummer ever.
As much as Joe progressed on Rides Again toward the stardom he was to attain, I wasn't as impressed with this second effort. Peters is a better technical player than Kriss but I prefer the latter's bass lines. Jimmy really blossomed here. Hard to believe that later, when the band faltered, he didn't get on with a major group as did Joe. Overall, the sequel didn't match the original.
Yer Album is well recorded, the MoFi re-master of Rides Again is excellent. On both, Symczyk shows his mastery.

Follow Ups:
Does this new reissure contain the original 7 minute version of "The Bomber"? I have an original that does and an 80's German coopy that has the 5 minute version.
James Gang Rides Again is terrific. I have the original that I bought when it first came out.

I remember purchasing Yer Album when it first came out. I think I was in 10th grade. Loved it. Loved the look of the band and loved the album artwork. Rides Again was good too. Really like side 2. Was always sorry Walsh went on to join the Eagles...
Thanks for posting.
I too was sorry to see Walsh join the Eagles. But I guess you can't fault him for going for the big bucks meal ticket.
I pretty much wore out my copy of "So What".
