Given my experience with Audioquest carbon fibre brushes there is a possibilty with the old design that they may fail after only 20 years or so of pretty constant use. This may shock people who have spent maybe as much as $20 (15 gbp) on one. That represents as much as $1 per year!! What kind of person can afford that?Basically the fibres don't fail but the mounting may.
However after a very long period of use the fibres may become soiled so I would suggest an occasional overnight soak in some kind of cleaner ( I use Disc Doctor either Miracle of Quick Clean) followed by a rinse with distilled water and an air dry.

Planned obsolescence predatory practice! ...Inexcusable Ahh
I still use my Decca brush 30+ years later. And I still use it on the Rega Planar 3 with the Grace tonearm and cartridge that I bought it for. It is sitting on the original stand at the right in the picture. The F9E cartridge is recently resurrected after sitting in a box with a bent stylus for most of those years. I just bent the stylus back into alignment. This has to be the best MM cartridge ever. It is a shame they are made of unobtainium.
The record is "Kind of Blue" on kind of blue vinyl.
There are a fair number of F9/9E carts and styli on eBay at the moment, including an F9 with original, possibly low-hours, stylus and allegedly unused 9E replacement stylus.
The f8-L10' anniversary edition mounted on a Grace G707 is pretty slick too. It's amazing what great synergy between the arm/cartridge setup can achieve, absolutely astounding.

I am quite fond of my Grace 707. It is good to see that others are enjoying this arm too! So far a Grace cartridge has eluded me. I almost bought one in the 80's, but you never know what may come your way. I think SoundSmith now make a replacement needle.

The outstanding reproduction that can be achieved with the synergy of an arm and cartridge designed to work together can only be experienced. It would be to your benefit to make a Grace cart your next audio purchase.

The pics on this site alone is worth the price of admission always nice equipment showing up here.
