A Sweet Freedom LP made by Sanctuary Records in 2015 sounds horrible! It's about the worst sounding record I've heard in my life - it has one tone, no highs, no separation of instruments, it sounds like a poor cassette recording made on a very poor cassette with excessive recording level. The music is good but the poor quality of this reissue makes it unlistenable. Does anyone have a similar experience?
I saw a made in Japan version of this LP locally, but it was way too expensive for my budget...
Follow Ups:
Not a fantastic band, but put on Magician's Birthday and rock on.
I like their live album, until they hit the 50's rock and roll cover stuff.
Having been born in 1956, the seventies were definitely my wheelhouse for Rock.
See ya. Dave
I have Magician's Birthday printed by Wax Cathedral. More or less listenable, though has a pronounced digital glare...
Mick "One Take" Box...
Saw them in 72 in touring for the album.
The song "Salisbury' is one of the great "Epic" from that time period.
Closing band was Savoy Brown touring for "Hell Bound Train".
Damn!
I would recommend you find an original US pressing of this album. They shouldn't be too difficult to find and shouldn't be too expensive. I pretty much guarantee it will sound better than any new reissue. An original UK copy will probably sound even better but will probably be more expensive.
Good luck
I'll look for it in a record store...
