I found this nice hunk of brass at a garage sale for $3.00 it weighs 1lb 14oz and the whole is big enough to fit the spindle on my Empire. So far I have noticed a slight improvement in the bottom end, it is not a dramatic improvement but I like it.

Follow Ups:
It was machined from aluminum for me many moons ago by a friend. It weighs in at 11 ounces and has three rubber O-rings for grip. It has suede leather glued to the bottom.
Looks like a good fix for an occasional dish-warped record. Otherwise, I have the same concerns voiced about out of balance and bearing wear issues.
and I'm still using it.
Never found a lighter weight, but have not noticed any damage from the 7-8 ouncer.
I suspect that a mostly non magnetic weight would work best, but...
Oddly enough the Mapleshade cone is of the same diameter as the 45 RPM adaptor, which simplified things.
I had concerns about the shape my self and combined with the weight I will not use it I guess it was an impulse by, not the first and not the last.
Thanks again.

I wouldn't put that much weight on your TT bearing- it represents probably a 100% increase over the original design force. It might not damage the bearing immediately but will increase wear in the long run.
as shared by others -
Overall weight on the bearing, and asymmetrical shape of the weight means unbalanced platter.
If you'd like to continue using it I would at least consult with Ralph at AtmaSphere since he is very familiar with Empire tables.

Since the weight is not symmetrical, your platter is no longer balanced. Not sure if this will translate into poor performance, but I know that table manufactures take great care and expense to provide a balanced platter.
My thoughts too. Bearing damage ahead?

You paid HOW MUCH for that electrical receptacle?!!! Are YOU nuts?
I would have left it .. at the garage sale.

I initially read the weight as 11 pounds! LOL
Looks like a great cheap solution. Maybe stick a plastic plug in the hole, find the exact center and drill out a closer fit so you can easily center the weight?
