a Clearaudio Goldfinger cartridge... $15,000????
Way beyond me and my ears!

The Koetsu Blue Lace runs the same change.
BTW, the Goldfinger was released nine years ago.
in a system of sufficiently high quality, read price, one could easily justify a $15k cartridge. Having neither the appropriate system nor a spare $15K this is just talk on my part!

True Risabet , I agree w/ you . But when I first heard the Goldfinger Statement V2 in the system I mentioned my ears bled . It's very critical w/ regards to setup and if you don't you'll wonder how come 15K for a cartridge .

Hi fellow inmates ,
Its a very revealing cartridge , cannot tolerate it at first because of it very analytical. The owner had a Lyra Etna and it was much better. But when we got the set up right ( VTA , Azimuth , Zenith , VTF & loading ) its fantastic its so alive as if the musicians were in the room . The ETNA was slayed. The system cosisted of Kronos Pro turntable w/ the optional upgraded P.S. , Kuzma Stogi 4 point tonearm 11" , ARC REF 10 linestage & REF PHONO 10 , ARC REF 750SE Monoblocks and the Sonus Faber Aida's speakers .
I read in a review from Michael Fremer he had one at some time not too long ago on his Caliburn which was his reference setup. I assume he thought it sounded great.
I'd like to hear one myself but I see no opportunity to ever hear one.

Well ,
I just bought one. Still in the box. I got a deal that I could not refuse.
There's no accounting for taste Lew, I have the Atlas, Etna SL, Koetsu RSP as well a box full of others I've forgotten about.
I think in the correct circumstances it is a fabulous cartridge.
Those others that you name ARE good. I heard the Goldfinger in a Walker Audio Proscenium on a big bucks system. I thought it was shrill and clinical sounding, but that' s just me.
That's most certainly not my recollection of hearing it on the Statement at Sea Cliff many moons ago!
I agree with you about the Goldfinger's sound and heard a similar character from a Clearaudio Titanium v2.I did not hear this character from the superb ZYX Universe Premium, which is the best cartridge I have heard.
Happy listening!

Great minds think alike
I have not heard the latest universe but I do love the original version
I never before noticed how much the vpi resembles an L07D in form.
That IS a TNT I think.
We have 4 of these in our group plus mine and I don't share your observations on this cartridge.
Verdier, TW acoustic, Kuzma, Micro Seiki, Brinkmann with various top flight arms have shared this cartridge.
That's what makes the hobby interesting. Enjoy your choices and the music. Cheers.
There's no accounting for (my) taste I guess.
Perhaps my use of "shrill" was hyperbolic.
But I was not enthralled either.
I'm surprised that you you found the Walker/Goldfinger combo to be less than spectacular. A friend of mine has that combo and shrill and clinical it is not. You might appreciate that he also runs that through an AtmaSphere preamp and amp combo to some horns.

I try not to make declarations like I just did do. My point really was that $ are not a sure path to nirvana. However I really didn't care much for the goldfinger and I don't blame the proscenium
Just an opinion
Cartridges are famous for mark up, the trick is to buy a system where the guy will throw in a $15,000 cartridge. When one considers the cost of parts , the next question is labor costs. While I would never begrudge a man a fair profit, that cartridge is more than aspirational for me, it is out of the question.

Worse than the price, it's not that great sounding.
You're not being deprived of any particular thrill

I know of two people that own one. One is a dealer, though it is on his private table.
FYI, they rarely sell at that price.

Sometimes those TOTL models aren't really meant to sell and rarely do. What they do is enhance the image of the company, i.e. you can own a cartridge from the maker of the $15K Unobtainophon.
