I just put together a second headshell and cartridge so I can switch without much trouble when i want to listen to a different cartridge . I'm trying to figure out now where to store the unused one. Suggestions are welcome.

It holds your headrsahells and cartridges and is built like a tank...it's a startlingly well made plastic box!
You can drop it from the top shelf of your rack, filled wth headshells/csrts and NOTHING will happen to your rather expensive toys.
Don't ask me how I know this.

Nothing fancy. I'd rather have one of those pretty wooden headshell stands like the one cactuscowboy has.

Here's a piece of 3/4" oak I use to hold headshells/cartridges:
...to poster size and hang it on my wall. It's a thing of beauty! I recognize a coupla/few in there, the Grado and the Soundsmith, have you got any personal favorites, or are they just different flavors?
Very cool...
I like the Ortofon Concorde a lot, with either a 40 stylus for spinning stereo LPs, or a D25M (1.1 mil conical) and summed to mono for spinning mono LPs and 45s. The Grado ME+ also does a great job with mono discs. The Grado Platinum wood body is very nice with stereo LPs. The SMMC-2 is great. The Stanton 500 (and six different styli) is used for spinning 78s. The Shures & Empires are also very nice. Hard to say there's a real favorite. It's more a case of choosing the best cartridge for the job at hand.
Hi Cactuscowboy,
That is exactly what I want. The round hole is a no-brainer but how do you get the little slot for the pin on the head shell?
Thanks,
Phil
Going by memory... I think I used a 19/64" drill bit for the holes. The small slots were cut with a handheld coping saw. Once the cuts were made, I cleaned them up with a needle file. I have a simple plastic dust cover, the top half of a package of "salad mix" from the grocery store.
Thanks.
I've got to get on this. My 78 stylus just met with an unfortunate accident laying unprotected. I'm now motivated.

that I'll be attempting to replicate soon (altho I have reorganized my "box" shown in the photo above, that pic was soley for insurance purposes). Well done!!

My Kenwood KD 500 has a hole in the plinth to hold one spare headshell and cartridge, but I have gotten beyond two cartridges so I need a solution wit larger capacity. There are purpose built boxes for this purpose but the price is in the "you have got to be kidding" range. One of my future projects is to build such a box.

thanks guys.
I bought one of these boxes from 2Juki, eBay seller. They used to be less money, oh well. They are well made, though. I have several cartridges and a few different tonearms that use a standard headshell, makes it convenient.

got it in 2009
Very nice indeed. How much did you say you paid?
I paid about $90 including shipping. ebay seller 2juki has 2 cartridge boxes listed currently around that same price. The one I have has some printing on the top like the "deluxe" model he's selling now. Hope that helps. Stephanie

Is 2Juki a reputable dealer?
yes, he is trustworthy but sometimes he travels for his REAL job and delivery times get worrisome. he always delivers though.

I have bought numerous items from him, very reputable. He's been around for quite a while, sells on Audiogon as well.

I use small hinged wooden boxes, such as the type one can find at a Pier I or Hobby Lobby store. The one on the right is a jewelry box, the one on the left is a walnut box that one of my cartridges was originally sold with.

Hi, Audiogabby:
I own a walnut disc, about 5" in diameter, with a smoked lucite "bubble" top piece. This item was manufactured specifically to house several cartridges, already mounted in headshells. It holds them vertically. There are openings which are sloted in such a way so when you insert your headshell, they are held firmly and in some cases, the locator flange pin on the connector side of the headshell fits into the plastic insert on the walnut base itself.
I believe that his might have been a product of Discwasher years ago and I forgot where I got it originally. It is quite an elegant way to store things like that. I have just viewed a site featuring products offered for sale by Esoteric Sound and among the items listed are individual housings to store a headshell with cartridge mounted. Check out their other products. The products seem quite properly tailored for some rather unsuual applications, hence the name "esoteric".
BTW, I have no connetion with this vendor at all.

I'm buying the cartridge caddies to put them on a nicely finish board like the guy above. It's going to look sharp. Thanks to all. I'll try to post photos when i'm done.
