I would beg to differ. I've recently found several unscratched and well cared-for ceedees in my "collection" that will no longer play, regardless of the CDP used, but all of my records, regardless of their age, still play....
Thanks, Kava.

Simplify.
They're much, much more durable.
They're also secure media, DRM-free, virus-free, and will likely last much longer as a physical medium than their decaying digital equivalents. What's not to like?
I love them.

Hey JimK,
Have you noticed if any of those CDs that went bad are the gold ones?
(I bring it up because I remember reading, (a long time ago), that one reason for going to gold was that the aluminium, (used in standard CDs), will oxidize eventually,(within a hundred years even when encased in plastic), whereas gold will not, (or at least not in our lifetime).
FYI, I have not had any of my prerecorded CDs go bad, (knock on wood!), but I've had several of my CDR copies go bad after just a couple of years.
I've not seen the random holes that Bry mentions, but then again, I've not looked for them, only scratches.
And as far as I know all my gold ceedees still pay just fine....

I've had maybe 4 or 5 of them that started skipping and showed a random pattern of holes when held up to the light.
will last forever assuming proper storage whereas CDs can deteriorate

And not once did the writer refer to records as vinyls!!! Man, I hate it when they do that.
It always makes me wince when I see people put their greasy mitts on vinyl - surely they could do better in an article containing input from vinyl enthusiasts?

I'm so used to seeing photos of clots clawing at records or having them lying flat on the floor after reading about all the pops and clicks and lovely scratches which is surely the joy of vinyl.?? I too thought he was inspecting a record by holding it.
"put up with." Any writer who does even a few interviews with vinyl lovers knows that isn't the case (a big collective Duhhh from vinyl inmates).

many, many evenings of listening often have no (or - maybe a couple) of those and are rarely objectionable
