I just got a DV 20x2 L from Needledoctor. At 2 grams, with a level headshell it rides so low I can't see any space between it and the record. It's either bottoming out, or coming very close to bottoming out.
Just called Needledoctor and was told that the new shape of the cartridge body might account for what I'm seeing and that I should take a picture and send it to them.
I can certainly do that, but no cartridge should ride that low regardless of the body shape, right?
Anybody else have one of these? If so, how does it look?
Thanks.

I have the same problem with my B&O MMC 20 CL where the vinyl was rubbing the bottom of the cartridge body. A fabulous sounding stereo cartridge, now in storage.
Can Sound Smith fix a collapsed B&O cantilever?
Among other things, Peter, is "Mr. B&O". You couldn't pick a more applicable person/company.
I had the same problem with a DV 20L (original). Mine would occasionally bottom out on a warped record. Sent it to Soundsmith, turned out the cartridge suspension had collapsed. I bought mine used so I chalked it up to experience.
I throw my windows open wide and call to you across the sky.
The only reason I posted was to see if anyone had experience with a cartridge riding that low and being okay. I have determined since then that this cart. is indeed bottoming out and Needle Doctor has told me that they will contact the distributor and will work something out.
I bought a Dynavector because have had three others and love the sound, and I bought it from Needle Doctor because I've always had good service from them and expect the same this time.
At this point, I'm assuming the problem with this particular cartridge is an anomaly and Needle Doctor had nothing to do with that.
And you have contacted the dealer who is supposed to contact the distributor on your behalf. I would give that a week and if you do not hear something contact ND again.
If all else faile use the email that Mike left. You can always contact the distributor directly but it is best to give ND a chance to work out your problem. But don't wait too long. You paid a sum of money that is not very large in the high-end audio world but it definately isn't chump change either.
Good Luck,
Ed
We don't shush around here!
Life is analog...digital is just samples thereof
I'd also recommend calling Mike Pranka at Dynavector USA. A very helpful guy. He would be the expert.
Best of luck.
Here is my old 20x. Lower than I would like, but it clears by about a millimeter.
The 20x2 with exactly the same tracking force and VTA (slightly tail down,
Here it is with the tail slightly up.
This just doesn't look right.
Over the years here at AA there hve been numerous posts about the same problem.
Contact your seller or Mike Pranka, US distributor.

When you say "numerous posts about the same problem," do you mean specifically Dynavectors?
This is the fourth one I've owned.
1) 10x4 Purchased from Origin Live. No problems.
2) 20xH Purchased from US dealer. Don't recall which one. No problems.
3) 20xL w/micro-ridge stylus Purchased "slightly used." Seen in fist pic. Cantilever a little to one side and rides pretty low as seen.
4) 20x2 in question.
about low riding 20x carts.
Personally, I think it's the finest cartridge I've ever used...shocking me silly with joy and enjoyment. On the Pioneer arm (Kenwood deck), it was wonderful. Hung on the JMW10...well, I'm hanging one on the JMW where a custom-made cartridge hangs now.
While I love the Frankenstein (Win Labs innards/Soundsmith stylus and cantilever, and Monster body), the combination of the Dyna and the JMW thrills me like no combination ever has.
That said, there have been far more than one post about sagging cantilevers.

I thought my Denon DL-304 rode low until I saw your photos. Something's not right with your Dynavector or your tracking force is waaayyy off.
