Just moved these from the shop, with help from my GF. With just a few hours they are sounding good. The horns are moveable so that I can adjust for the room and try different placements. The plan is to move them into the box, maybe.
Not sure how I am going to dress them up. Paint? Wall paper? or a big sock?
technics, quicksilver pre, quicksilver horns
Thanks for looking.

Nice speakers. I may have to come over and listen. The cornscala's you had sounded very sweet.
Enjoying my Quartets.

Hi Karl,
Yes please come for a listen. I would like to hear about your audio journey.

I like it a lot! Have you tried experimenting with the phase relationship between the LF and HF drivers yet? Check out the link below and maybe it can be useful to you.
I wonder how a Le Cleach 350 horn will mate with those bass bins that you have. Are those 15" drivers? Would you mind sharing the design of the enclosures?
Abe
Yes thanks for the suggestion. The link is full of ideas.
I would like to try the Le Cleach 350 horn! That might be the next step. the current horn is designed to me hidden.
15" woofers. the box is just that with a shelf port. I used baltic birch and epoxy.
The main idea in the box is that the drivers are so close to the sides that they are held firm.

Nice speakers. Are those mini-monitors large enough for you? ;-)
I always go with the "less is more" approach with these things. Applying anything to the cabs will effect the resonance of those cabs and potentially have a negative effect on the sound also.
Go slow and hopefully anything you do has a positive outcome or can be reversed if you don't like it.
Best of luck with the speakers,
Ed
We don't shush around here!
Life is analog...digital is just samples thereof
By definition I don't see how they can be considered to be mini monitors.
Here are some real mini monitors. Acoustic Energy AE1's and on top some Mission MS-50's. Genuine mini monitors.

You'd probably do well to treat that bare room with something. At the very minimum some window treatments and an area rug or two.

Don't worry about avoiding temptation. As you grow older, it will avoid you.

What is the crossover frequency or crossover frequencies? Are those 15-inch woofers basically subwoofers with a full range horn?
It looks like an interesting configuration.
Good luck,
John Elison
Close. Crossover is at 1k. Hopefully the horns act like a point source to my ears so to lessen the timing effects.
I like the moveable horn(s) idea.
ENJOY!

It's not often we get pictures of speakers in Vinylasylum.
Very nice!
...where those vinyl snobs went? You know, those who think that this part of the asylum is strickly "vinyl only" and once you post something about equipments(try listening to your KLP's without those damn equipment and see if you like it!), they scream and squirm as if they were "violated"! To them idiots, I say get a freaking life.
In other words, you want to argue and rant whether there is anybody to argue with or not. Is that what you're saying? I guess I understand -- not really!
I did not think that much about the post - it being speakers. I like this group because it is mostly about the music. A long topic about 80's Jazz. GREAT!!!
Don Walker
I didn't even realize it was out of place until someone mentioned it. ;-)
No, I do not want to rant or argue about anything here in VA! As I said, I am just wondering that's all.
Inspiring!
Very nice, congrats on the new gear.
Obviously I can't see the rest of the room, but what's visible strikes me as bare and prone to sound bouncing around, echo chamber effect if you will. I'd probably put some curtains on the window and an area rug on the floor for starters.
The room is a problem. The ceiling is at and angle and the clap test is laughable! There is much wall area that is wide open and hard to cover. Horns work best, I guess because of the beaming effect.
Currently I have silicon on the bottom. I plan on making custom feet or I might use some Totem feet. The coupling or decoupling and spikes draining/isolating is a tough road to defend. Guess thats why its fun.
Don Walker
I think you're better off with an angled ceiling.
Some interesting info here on room shapes and so on.
I saw a good idea on a production speaker for finishing a simple box, linoleum. It's easy to cut. There are tons of finishes from simple to garish. And it probably will be a good extra layer of constrained layer damping.
linoleum!! what a interesting idea.

It looks like you went with a transmission line bass enclosure? I bet you have some good bass coming from your speakers.
A few suggestions... If you put spikes under the speakers, it should tighten up the bass. They make brass disks you can place under the spikes on so it will not damage your hardwood floors. Depending upon how they were built, I suggest taking a router and round the corners of the speakers even if it is only a 1/4" radius. If you can go to a 3/8" or 1/2" radius, even better. As for the finish, If you can swing it, I would go for a real wood veneer such as walnut, cherry, etc.
Enjoy!
Its just a shelf port, but with two 15" woofers already going very low I am not sure how important the rest is?
Not sure I am ready to go all out on the finish. Maybe the next set. I do like real wood but most of my funiture is wood, so maybe I have enough wood grain.
Thanks for the kind words. Yes the bass is good and the sound is easy.
Don Walker
while spikes and disks will probably improve the bass it shouldn't be as good as spikes alone. The contact to the floor is now the same as if the feet are the disks, not the spikes.
