Any idea what the seller is thinking/smoking?

They are nice but not that nice. I bought mine in a thrift store for a pittance. I was going to put the SME on my LP-12 (which currently has a Grace 707). Is that a bad idea? Of course I can always put it back to sell it. I have read that you can put Lin springs and grommets on it. It is a very nice table but $1600 seems ridicules!

I owned a brand new one just like it 40-years ago -- SME arm and everything. It was my second turntable. My first was the original AR.
If anyone gives him more than $350 for it, they must know something I don't know. ;-)
Best regards,
John Elison
Actually great turntables that with some recapping, new belt, oil, polish, re balancing the springs etc sound great.
The SME is way overpriced, must be at least $1250. On reflection any mid decent new arm will set you back this. With a Cardas rewire, new grommets, all the weights, two spare headshells perhaps it is worth it..perhaps!!
Well, you can't go fishing unless you through you line in the water.
He has the "make an offer" option. If anyone is interested they can cast "their" line out there & see if they get a hit.
(hey, he did take a lot of nice pics.)
Looks like a nice project table and a good price for it might be $350.
The SME 3009 S2 appears to have the dreaded counterweight sag because it can't hold the rider weight level. At the least, it needs a new rubber isolator grommet.
Apart from the oxidation evident on the surface of the outer platter, the TT itself appears to have good cosmetics which should clean and polish up very nice. While the sellers' comments about operation of the TT seems positive, I would consider it a project TT in need of a thorough overhaul.
As a further comment, for the TD125, I prefer the stock cabinetry over any custom plinths I've seen done so far.
Perhaps the seller will get the message after this TD125 receives no interest this time around.

This isn't a standard 125, you see. It plays all genres … or, at least, all genres that are truly “of your choice.”
Most 125s will play only one or two genres, unless you have a Thorens specialist seriously modify them.
Seems a bargain.
