Hi.I recently found a pair of Fisher XP-7K speakers at the Goodwill for four dollers each. I thought I would take a chance with them and see how well they worked. These suckers are heavy! Lugged them home and hooked them up to my amp. Sound rather good! SOund better than the new Cerwin Vegas I bought last year. Anyone have some info on these? What is their wattage? History? Thanks!

Wow! I've never run across the xp-7K's. I have owned, currently use, and auditioned a lot of the xp-series, and I find them to be very good....particularly paired with the Fisher amps. Anyway, if you at some point ever take off the grills it'd be great if you could post a picture. I'd like to see the speaker configuration. send me your email and I'll send you some reading material. Walt

Thanks for the pics! The speaker configuration looks just like the xp-7B.....I wonder what the difference is? for what it's worth, the pair I had sounded their very best with an old Bogen 6v6 receiver. The soundstage and three dimensionality were just amazing. Thanks again, Walt
According to my 1970 catalog, the 7k is simply a 7B with a wood fretwork grille in place of the fabric.
No mention of the XP-7's in the 1962 catalog, they are in the '64 catalog, still in the '73 book as the XP-7C. I have no reference to the XP-7K in any of my literature, so it may be a slightly later model than '73.Specs that I have for the 7/7C are 30-20kHz, one 12" woofer with 5 1/2 pound magnet, two 5" mid-range in separate sealed compartments, one 1 1/2" cotton soft-dome tweeter. 8 ohm impedance. Crossover points are 300 Hz and 2500 Hz, 12 dB slope. Max power 50 watts. Walnut veneer over 3/4" thick cabinet. Listed as either 40 or 45 pounds each.
Thanks Fisherdude for the info. That does help a lot. I am curious how well these speakers rate? Do you have any opinions on the xp & series?
While Fisher speakers don't have a huge following in the collector world, the totl models, like yours, are very, very good speakers.Btw, thanks for posting the pictures. Two tweeters!! Wow!! Maybe that's the main change between the 7/7C's and your 7K.
I have a cosmetically perfect pair of XP-4a's. All the drivers work, but the highs are very rolled off. Sounds like they're wrapped in blankets. One of my winter projects is to clean up the L-pads and put new capacitors in the xovers and see if that makes a difference.
Good luck with yours!
Clay
