I JUST PURCHASED THIS AMPLIFIER ON EBAY AND I HAVE A COUPLE QUESTIONS
CUSTOM AMP SOUNDS GREAT .IT HAS THIS COOLING FAN THAT I CAN HEAR IN LOW PASSAGES OF MUSIC MY QUESTION IS DO I REALLY NEED THIS FAN OR CAN I REPLACE THIS WITH A QUIET ONE ?
ALSO I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT MARANTZ MODEL THE POWER AMP BOARD IS AND HOW MANY WATTS IT PUTS OUT IT HAS 4 TRANSISTORS (2) C1116A AND (2) A747A IN A SINGLE BOARD .THE AMP HAS MODEL 250 METERS IN THE FRONT .ANY INFORMATION WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED THANK YOU ORLANDO

If that is just two output transistors per channel, it's probably based on a Marantz 140, or maybe parts from a 2270 or similar receiver.
I don't know how hard it would be to change; but it will cool better if the fins ran vertically on the heat sink as you'd then get some convective airflow. Also, the fan doesn't doo much with the upper and lower fins. Two smaller fans placed one above the other would be quieter and more effective with the horizontal fins. You really want the airflow down between the fins. With the single center mounted fan, only the center row of fins gets the benefit of the fan.

can you show a picture of the driver board?
I don't know why but it doesn't look like a 250? But Marantz didn't make a large number of amps. The original outputs were SPS2324/5. check and see if it was a 15 or 16????

Thanks for the help I am thinking who built the unit started with a board and added the out put transistors of his choice because I checked pretty much every picture of Marantz driver board and none of them match . :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
Couldn't be a 15 or a 16, they are dual mono amps- two separate amps sharing one face plate-so there would have to be two power transformers and two output boards. Unless this is a really radical reworking.
Maybe a 250 or 510??
dunno...

If cutting out the middleman lowers the price, why are we paying the government to stand between us and the markets?
YES you need A fan, yes, you can replace with a quieter one {Pabst are quite good AND quiet}
The heatsinks present in no way can cool those transistors if you turn up the wick.
