I have a Sansui piece which is a missing the AC power cord. I saw one advertised on the internet but rather pricey.
I was thinking of making a home made cable with a pair 2 prong male plugs and using the unswitched outlet to power the unit. Is this a safe option?
Anyone have a cheaper option than this one?

Thanks guys. Was just told a power cord from an electric shaver will work.
It looks like a common appliance cord from the pictures. I have a few in my wire collection that I will probably never use. If you have calipers, measure the pin span and diameter. If I have one that matches, you can have it for the price of postage.

No.

Yes. Buy the $29 cord, thus allowing you to focus your time and attention on larger issues without endangering yourself and the people and property in the apartments around you.

Yes, you can make a "suicide" cord and it will work on the unswitched outlet. You should cover the open prongs on the missing outlet with tape just to keep it a little safer. I would highly recommend browsing your local thrift stores for the cable. Or check out Radio Daze, they have alot of replacements.
I assume by suicide cord you mean one with a plug on either end. That would mean the prongs on the equipment side would be hot and very dangerous if the cord was unplugged from the Sansui. I see why they call it a "suicide" plug but I don't see why anyone who did not want to commit suicide would use it.

I don't know the ramifications of using the unstitched as a power in, but it doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I will leave that to those who know more about it than me. If it were my gear, I would go with an female IEC socket and not connect the ground (more likely, I would experiment with grounding). Of course you can go crazy with IEC cables but inexpensive ones can be built or bought.
