I would like to get a couple vintage tube amps improved/upgraded. Specifically a sherwood pair of monos and a heathkit 151.
If not in Chicago, who would you send these amps to? Thanks.

One of the most respected tube repair places in the Chicago area is Deltronics. They now have a shop in the western suburbs at:

Western Ave in Chicago. I've had plenty of things serviced there, great guy, great work, honest and fair pricing. Google the address and phone.
Baba-Booey to you all!
There is a guy in Lincoln Square, up on Western Avenue at the corner of Lawrence. It's about 4700 N. Western or so, near the Brown Line stop. I don't remember his name right now but I'll look it up when I get home. I just had my Scott 299(A) in there a few weeks ago for a tuneup and he did a nice job, for a fair price, and it was only a couple weeks turnaround time.
4743 N. Western Avenue, the guy's name is Dave. Website is below. The shop is sometimes open later than posted or at off hours, so just call him and make an appointment.
AA sponsor Jim McShane is in the Chicago area. Unfortunately, the man's plate is VERY full and you might wait on line for, literally, years.
AA member Mike Samra also does refurb work and he's in Michigan, which is not that far from home. Contact Mike for comparatively fast service.

Hi,
There is a guy in Downers Grove who is upgrading my Marantz ss amp. He advertises on ebay as computerwala and bills himself as an amp repair specialist. As far as tube stuff, you should ask him via his ebay portal on one of his bin amp upgrades.
When I dropped off my amp (I live in Madison) he struck me as a stand up person.
