Hi,
anyone have compared this two integrated? wich is the best sounding?
(I know one is 25 watts and the other 40, btw.)
regards
Follow Ups:
I ran the 3225 with a pair of Boston Acoustic speakers for years. Dont know the phono stage, but as an inetegrated amp, is real sleeper, IMO.

I have a 7240PE and it packs some punch. I use it to drive vintage 70's Polk Monitor 10's. Only problem which is common with NAD is they tend to get cold solder joints. which can introduce noise and crackle. I had to go over every joint and it is working tip-top now. It all started when I used this amp for computer speakers and had my 30 pound monitor on top of the amp which probably flexed the frame. But I've hear others have the same problem.
my 2 cents. Good amp/phono/tuner sections.
I think they sound about the same, power and feature differences aside, using relatively efficient speakers. When both models were new, and after hearing both at a dealer over a period of a few weeks I decided to buy the 3225 (new) over the 3240 because I didn't need the additional power or features of the 3240.About a year later I traded it for the 7225PE receiver, which was the 3225 + a decent tuner, and enjoyed it quite a bit. I used it stand alone and later as a preamp with an upgraded NAD 2200 power amp, also very enjoyable (but better).
Hope this helps.

Hi,
are the 3225PE England or Taiwan made?

Hi,
one important thing is about the phono stage section quality, are both the same? I have get on the net the 3225 repair manual for some specifications, but can't get the 3240 yet.
If the 3225 with the power envelope device is like a 60 or 70 watts, we can run it with a average sensitivity/effiecience speaker, I guess. Are the 3240 in the same fashion and is like a 100 or more watts amp?
I supose that this PE design is in other words a great headroom or reserve energy to compensate any energy needs/loss due to speakers impedance drop, I'm right?
regards
Yes, the power envelope design allows the amplifier to behave as if it is much more powerful for very short periods of time. Technically I have no idea how it does this, but you could find sales brochures on ebay I'm sure. I believe both phono sections are the same (except if I recall the 3240 had an MC input?), and derived from the 3020.
Jim
The PE technology used two windings (a lower voltage high current one, and a higher voltage lower current one) on the transformer and switched between them depending on the load conditions. They were not the only ones to do this, Proton and Hitachi being two others.

The PE designation means Power Envelope, which indicates the amps have really high power on music, about 4 times the continuous rating. So in theory the 25 watt amp will play as loud as a typical 60 or 70 watt amp. It's pretty close in practice, too.
Jerry
The only difference between models such as 2200 vs 2200PE is this.
All "PE" Series products:
This line was designed with a variable power supply, with the idea of conserving energy. (The British have an bug about this, left over from WWII rationing). Otherwise they are the same.
I have a 2200PE that was modified to get rid of this feature and it increased the sound quality and bass extension.

Todd
Hi Jerry,
do you have heard both? I will get one as a second equipment, but I do not know wicho one sounds better. Have this two Nads designed by Bjorn Erik Edvardsen? I know the regarded 3020 was, but this two are later models.
Regards
I have never heard either one. Also, I don't believe they are the work of Bjorn Eric Edvardsen, although they do follow some of his teachings.
I have the NAD C350 and the C320BEE and they sound very similar, although the 350 is not his work.

O.K.,
sorry Phil. I think the most aproppriate forum for this tread must be the vintage asylum (but i'm not sure). It will never happen again.
