My buddy who is in financial trouble bought a pair of Yamaha NS-344's the other day at a yard sale for $10....he asked if I could buy them from him for $75 so he could go "Yard Sale-ing" to find stuff to sell at the flea market....
Being tight on cash myself, I paused but bought them anyway. They are in outstanding condition and sound wonderful. I only bought them to help out a friend and now I need to sell them because money is tight right now.
I cannot find anything out about these speakers, except that they were made from 1978 to 1982. They supposedly have the same woofers as the NS-10 and are supposed to be the "Big Brother" to the NS-10's...
Can anyone help me on this? I want to describe them correctly in my ad I'm going to post on audioasylum. What would be a fair price? Would that auction site be better?
Pics to be posted later....
Thanks,
Phil
Follow Ups:
I remember the NS-344 as being a somewhat largish bookshelf speaker, a three way (?). I don't think it had anything in common with the NS-10M, except for the use of white woofer cones. Of course, I haven't seen an NS-344 since the early 1980s, so I could be way off base here.

Hi Phil,
The NS-10 is still very popular pro audio people for mixing. Reports are very mixed on its virtures as a home system. So even if these are an NS-10 variant, it may not be to you liking. They would still have resale value to pro people.
I could not find any DATA on the NS-334. I could neither confirm nor deny that it is an NS-10 varient. The NS-10 is very striking looking with its piano black finish and its white woofer. If it is the same woofer, it should also be white and the same size. How do they sound?
You helped a freind who is down on his luck and let him keep his pride by selling you something rather than you give him a handout. That can't be a bad thing!

Dave, they sound fantastic! They have the woodgrain finish (Probably vinyl)and look as good as they sound.
Do you or anyone else know if the NS-10 woofer has a cast frame? I do not believe these are, have not opened them up yet to take a peak.
Regards,
Phil
I think is is cast but it has been a long time since I have seen a pair in front of me. It looks like it is cast in the picture at the link. A picture is worth a thousand words!

NS-344 specs seem good.
50hz to 38khz.
70watt power handling
90dB/W/m
8Ω
25cm woofer, 12cm mid, 3cm tweeter
crossovers at 700Hz & 6kHz
13.8Kg
I'd easily have paid 75$ for them myself.
The bad news is it does not look like an NS10. The good news it it looks like a better speaker! How about that FX-3!
