I would like to build my own diffuser array. My listening space is about 18x30 feet, and so I think I can get the listening spot about 14 feet from the diffuser array. I've been learning by looking at the QRDude calculator webpage, and I think I'd like to go big and put together a DIY version of the Diffractal diffuser.
It is my understanding that the DFR-72 model from RPG takes 7 narrow-width N7 diffusers and nests them in the 7 wells of a wider-welled N7 diffuser to extend the diffusing range into the higher frequencies. The QRDude site also states that, "By mounting an array of seven diffractal diffusers in a staggered N7 pattern, quite low frequency diffusion can be achieved. They refer to this as a DFR-73." I would really like to see photos of such a DFR-73 array, but I've had no luck.
It seems like the well depth required by the DFR-73 configuration would make for a prohibitively deep array in a home listening room (several feet deep for the deeper wells). Am I misunderstanding the way the DFR-72s are arranged to make a DFR-73? Or is it possible to arrange the DFR-72s along the wall in a way that would extend the bass diffusion?
Thank you for any help you might have.
May the bridges we burn light our way....
