In Reply to: RE: Help Reconfiguring a VansEvers Power Line Conditioner with Upgraded AC Receptacles posted by Jim Hodgson on February 03, 2017 at 10:20:58
Is it worth trying to upgrade the Model 85 in order to improve my power situation -- which includes three million neighbors (population of Brooklyn), a laundromat on the first floor of my apartment building, and a subway station in the basement? It's not the three million neighbors you should be concerned with so much. It's neighbors and businesses that share the same utility isolation power transformer with you. Their garbage on the mains becomes your garbage on the mains. No receptacle alone will filter out garbage.
Who shares your utility power transformer with you?
Pretty sure the subway station in the basement does not.Hopefully not the laundromat. Lots of garbage there.
What does share your transformer is all your fellow apartment tenants in the building.

you can also consider using heavy filters on the appliances you have in your apartment which make their own noise computer fridge washer dryer microwave freezer halogen lamps waterbed thermostats and such. You can filter them to keep their noise off your line has zero negative impact upon your hifi.

Another aspect of power line conditioning is power correction factor and AC delivery tuning methods via power cords, AC outlets, etc. It's not just about noise filtering...

Agree.
The OP could have a lagging power factor problem. Could.
.
And in the case of the OP, living in an old apartment building in Brooklyn, he may want to consider some voltage surge protection to protect his audio equipment. Especially if the laundromat on the first floor is fed from the same utility power transformer as the tenant spaces. Though that would not be the only reason.
He might ask the Super of the building to have his electrician install a whole house SPD (Surge Protection Device) on the mains of the electrical panel that feeds the branch circuits of his apartment. The OP would have to bare the cost of course. He should also consider secondary SPD protection at his dedicated 20 amp branch circuit duplex receptacle for his audio equipment.

I know. I tried doing away with the refrigerator but then there was no cold beer.
