I did do a search for damping material made by Sonic Barrier as sold by Parts Express as part #268-030 but no luck. Does any of you have experience with this product? I'm planning to use it or a similar product in my CDP's and integrated. But no stinky asphalt. I'm considering this product because it's low priced, light weight and low volume.

Funny you should mention this product. I just ran down to the basement shop to see what the product name was that I am presently using. It happens to be called 'Sound coat", BUT I can reasonably assume that it is nearly identical(and more expensive) than the product you have found. I read the Parts Express description, and looked at the phots. It's got to be close, so now, after all of that, I will tell you that it performs so much better than the asphalt product, I am only using it. I modd Carver C-9 units for fun, and found that the top cover rings like a bell. Ok, so I put brand X tar sound deadner, and yes, it was improved. Then, I took a chance on the Soundcoat product. Really, there is nomparison. Went from reduced ringing to a dull thud.

rodss and ozzyboy, after rereading the info on the Sonic Barrier material I realize you are both correct. Ozzyboy thanks for reminding me of Herbie's. I have several of his products and both have delivered the goods. I think I'll try your suggestion.Regards,

Suggestion: trry the Herbies thick db dampening sheets.
I have not used your referenced product. And I would venture to say many here on AA have not either. The reason is that this product is not audio specific enough. It is ok for auto sound apps. (low frequencies and all), but not the sort of damping that will help audio components best. It has been shown that contrained layered damping will be best for audio components. In particular, DynaMat Extreme works well. More expensive, yes, but works best. I have used it in many audio applications.
