I want to bore a CLEAN hole of around 7 mm diameter and 2 cm deep in a sorbothane puck. Certainly an ordinary drill does not deliver. Any suggestion? Waterjet? Lasercut? But I suspect lasercut will leave a hardened scar which I don't want.
Follow Ups:
I used a section from a broken telescoping antenna, filed square and sharpened in the inside to cut the spindle hole in a cork and leather turntable mat. That could work, but for 2cm, you may need to grind a relief hole on the side.
Good luck,
Dave
Pay No Attention to That Man Behind the Curtain
I have made punches from thin wall steel tubing sharpened razor sharp and made clean holes in various flexible items 1/8"-1/2" thick (closed wall foam , rubber , cork, wetsuit foam material etc.)If you have enough material to practice with try a couple of "test holes" first, make sure it's razor sharp and use a few drops of dish soap for a lubricant.Try chucking it in your drill and spinning it slowly with light pressure. Use a piece of leather or Balsa wood to support the foam. Depends on how thick it is for it to cut cleanly Good Luck ! :^) Hey it's a 50/50 chance it will work :)

What's good for shoe inserts ain't necessarily good for the sound.
seriously, dude - when do you think the hook was invented? ;)
avoid the fumes. Just kidding of course. Denden has what seems a good idea. You may want to bounce it off Steve at Herbies, he sells lots of sorbothane stuff.

Actually, the compliant materials from Herbie's Audio Lab are intended to be a better sounding alternative to Sorbothane, and I concur...
See link:
Absolutely no disagreement with that. Sorbothane tends to deaden the sound too much. But sorbothane is the "best" stuff I've got in my audio toolbox to try out things.
Since Herbie claims its material is proprietory, there is no way to tell exactly what that material is. Love to know a description more concrete than that on Herbie's site.
Freeze the sorbothane and use a forstner bit in a drill press. Feed the drill very slowly. Works perfect.

I would not use a spade bit!!!!!! Forstner bit is the best approach.
Sounds like a very good idea. Will try.
Perhaps very sharp punch?
Probably not. Hole is 2 cm deep.
