I'd like Inmates' guidance on 5-way binding posts. I have a small repair and retail shop, and we do some customization. As probably everyone in this forum knows, most vintage equipment has various kinds of mostly inferior speaker connectors, including screw terminals and various spring-tensioned devices. I'd like to offer customers the option of changing or in some cases adding 5-way binding posts.
I'm looking for a good value binding posts--those that are relatively inexpensive and relatively high quality (will pass lots of current, bind well, mount easily, are reliable). I've looked around some, but haven't found any that seems the obvious choice. Dual banana jacks are preferable.
To be clear, they don't have to be the cheapest (I can get some for less than $1 each) but they can't be ridiculously expensive (my tech would say "sprinkled with unicorn semen").
That's where you come in. Which value binding posts do you like? What manufacturer/model/supplier?
thanks,
Lee

I like the these. Mark Levinson used to use them.

Machined from tellurium copper, like the Edison Price "Music Post" was, but these are gold plated to avoid the tarnishing the EP posts are noted for.
$8.60 each. Unicorn semen sold separately.
The link below is for the black post. Allied's part number for the red counterpart is 885-6052.
I use them exclusively but only for speakers.
Vintage Audio Labs on E-Bay is my source for chassis mount. These are also gold on copper and the service/shipping is very good going back at least 5 years. The $25 SMD attenuator on the site is killer!

For simple low-budget installations, Parts Express #260-302 features mundane gold plated brass 5-way binding posts with plastic nuts, and solder tabs pre-affixed to plastic terminal plates. Sonic performance is on par with typical stock 5-way binding posts.

For near-premium quality, yet still high-value installations, the Vampire BP-HEX Binding Post is a gold plated binding post made from one piece of hard brass, including the top nut. It is then copper plated, silver plated, and finally gold plated. Sonic performance is fast and detailed from top to bottom.

I've replaced the plastic and metal posts on my NAD 326 amp with Parts-Express Part #:091-1150. Gold plated, excellent grip on bananas. Prior to soldering loosen the nuts to allow the red and blk. washers to move and use a heat sink on the post. These are on Picture Guy's list.
I recommend Abbatron/HH Smith gold-plated posts, available in large quantities from Allied Electronics. I use them as budget upgrades on vintage electronics, and find them better, quality and value-wise than anything Parts Express offers. In my experience, the Parts Express WBT clones only look pretty. When I need to install premium posts, I just install genuine WBT midline and topline. ...is that a hi-enf mfgr. like Classe would use such drek in their products. The after picture was most telling. This would seem to be an easy and affordable upgrade. Too bad it is necessary on such expensive gear.

What makes you think the new one actually works better? Looks aren't everything...

Maybe something from this list?
Prices are between the ultra cheap-o / RadioShackup stuff and the very expensive WBT and Cardas.
Too much is never enough
