I moved to a new house. All my power amps have a low level hum coming from the transformers. They sound fine, but the hum is noticible when the music is off. What causes the hum? and any suggestion to reduce it?

Do you have anything in your system connected to a cable TV input like cable box, or other video gear?

I have my system connected to computer. Is that matter? But the hum is machanical hum from the transoformation.
Are you connecting the computer audio output to a dedicated PC audio input jack on an AVR or similar gear?
Even so, you could be getting hum from a mismatch of impedance between the PC's output and the inputs of the AVR or preamp.
Check the link to DAK Electronics for DAK-CS1 impedance matching transformer with interconnect for computer audio.

PS I use the DAK CS-1 connecting a laptop to my Harman AVR 154 and it works very well.
No noise or hum.
I can't say for sure this is THE problem but it is a strong possibility.
Do you hear hum when everything but the speakers are disconnected from your amps/preamps or AVR?

I just reviewed your first post.
Am I correct in saying that the hum is not coming through the speakers, but is an electrical hum coming from the transformers in the amplifiers?
I'm afraid I can't think of anything that would cause that except a problem in the amps.
What type amps?
How many Amperes does the electrical circuit carry from the electrical panel?

Please disregard posts about connections and impedance:-)

Check the Vac coming from the wall with your DMM.
Might be a bit high.
Sounds like DC on the power line at your new location. Lots of info on the internet regarding this problem and DIY DC Blockers. Here's one.
I hope your insurance is paid up.
Add the preamp and test again. No hum, it is not the preamp. etc.

One of the many reasons why I went with Balanced Power.
However there are other ways to get rid of DC in the power line.

There is probably DC on the power line. This saturates toroidal transformers at relatively low voltages and causes mechanical hum. IE transformers and many switching power supplies are less susceptible to the problem. Some manufacturers pot transformers to prevent humming and a number of power line filters offer DC protection.
... and do you have any specific product suggest for reduce the problem?
Thanks.
