Hi allAre there any high quality bipolar electrolytic capacitors out there that can be used for speaker crossover?
I need 2 pieces of 80uF. Film caps are two big at this value hence cannot fit.
I have been looking for a long time. If you have any advice, I will appreciate very much.
Follow Ups:
Blackgates bypassed by Teflons will give the best result. If you cannot afford Blackgates then Nichicon Muses are not bad. Use a .22 and .01 Teflon Bypass cap (or if strapped for cash then just a .1 uf)...this will give you most of the sound of great film caps without the cost and size. Great Teflons can be purchased from Jeff at Sonicraft....they are called Platinums are are not listed on his website...you must call him.
Thanks a lot. I live outside the US. Are there any online sources for these caps?
I used for a short time an 80 uf electrolytic from Bennic (since replaced with a Solen- size not important).A decent, but not earthshaking cap, IMHO (the Solen was light years better!).
Cheers,
Dman
GREAT GEAR DESTROYER!!!
I general rule in crossovers is that if any value of a component is too high or too low, then omit it. You will not hear a difference. Many times a modeling program will recommend a cap of 50, 100, 400 uF. You will find if you simply delete it from the XO, the circuit will give the same result. Same with 1 ohm resistors, 50 ohm resistors, 24mH coils (not in a subwoofer circuit).General rule, try it.
Incredible ! If that's true why even bother with a crossover ?!
Thanks all for your help. I will try to find some Nichicon Muse.
Philips makes some good quality electrolytic caps but Im not sure if they are bi-polar. If not you may try BG or Nichicon muse or a huge solen cap

Does such an animal even exist? Perhaps you would consider .. mounting the Xover OUTSIDE of the speaker enclosure.. even sounds better that way.
I had a similar requirement for my speaker crossovers and finally went for the Nichicon Muse Bipolar caps (cheap) bypassed with a 20uf film cap. The film cap I used were Ansars.Sounds good.
