I recently bought a modified Sansui-TU-717 and am going to upgrade some of the replaced capacitors. I don't have a service manual or parts list, but on the FM tuner site there is a mod write-up for both the TU-517 and TU-717. On board F2678, location C71 and C122 in the FMtuner mod, it says to replace C71 and leave C122 blank since they are in parallel, but I was confused if this was for both tuners or just the TU-717. Anyone experienced with modding these tuners?

Thanks to all for the help and suggestions. I have completed a full refurbishing of the Sansui TU-717. All e-caps in all boards were replaced with a mix of Silmic II and Black Gate, with a few film and foil caps in key locations. The tuner is still in a break-in mode, but it sounds amazing. It doesn't have the soundstage and dynamics of its big brother, the venerable TU-X1, but it is very very musical, with excellent tonality and timbre. I'm very pleased with the final results.

Owners manual and service manual are available here. You must register, but it's free.
Hi sherod,
The C71/C122 parallel combo is a 517 variation. The 717 only has C71. In the DIY over on the TIC the first line is 717 and the second line is 517. Hope that clarifies.

Thanks, John. What had me confused until you said this is that apparently I bought a hybrid Sansui tuner. Someone put the TU- 517 guts into a TU-717 chassis. I'd like to send you pics of inside and outside if you don't mind.
I don't think that somebody actually switched boards. Probably just two different revisions of the same board. If yo go over to the TIC and look at the pics of the 717 & 710 I think you can see that both pics show both 71 & 122 in the 700 series tuners. A little tough to see but I think they're both there.

On the FM tuner mod site, on the preamp board, #F-2678, they give a list of capacitor locations to replace. Which of these are most important for FM? I'm not too concerned about AM as I don't listen to it.
Circuit Board #F-2678 - When reading the schematic left to right, top to bottom:
C24: 100 µF 16V
C34: 33 µF 10V
C50: 10 µF 10V
C82: 10 µF 16V
C100: 47 µF 16V
C101: 47 µF 6.3V
C74: 47 µF 16V
C73: 47 µF 16V
C72: 100 µF 16V
C82 & 100 are AM B+ de-couplers. Al the rest are either FM sig path or FM B+.

John,
One more question. In the FM tuner mod, it combines the TU-517/717, it mentions an audio board of #F-2730. For the life of me, I can't find this board in my 717. Where is it?
2730 is the detector board hidden inside the vertical metal box located between the transformer and the main board.

John,
I took a picture of the bridge I made for the TU-X1 power supply. It is sitting in place waiting for soldering. Here is a pic:
Ok. Thanks.
Excellent! Thank you, John.
